WC4 Promotional Event at Planet Hollywood

On February 9, 1996, two days before Wing Commander IV's release, Origin held a promotional event at the Planet Hollywood restaurant in Beverly Hills to unveil the game and donate costumes used by Mark Hamill and Malcolm McDowell.

WC4 Sell Sheet

The front side features the game's famous promotional poster art, and the back side has various information that retailers could use to market the game. Like many pre-release items for WC4, the expected ship date is listed as December 1995, although the final launch slipped to February at the last minute.

WC4 Monitor Cover / Key Reference

Wing Commander IV 'Theatrical' Poster

These posters were given out only to Origin employees, gaming shops (mostly in Europe - American stores got a Blair standup!) and through a contest at Origin's web site. Copies of Wing Commander IV sold outside the US used this black artwork as their box covers... while the US got the confusing red packaging.

Wing Commander IV 35mm Film Trailer

Origin distributed a number of these film trailers to fans at their message board back in 1997. If you've ever seen auctions offering "film cels" from Wing Commander IV, they're just someone cutting up one of these trailers and selling it in little pieces.

One of the coolest pieces of Wing Commander promotional material ever created, these were designed as two page ads printed in Playstation specific magazines back in 1996-7. It's a 'car advertisement' for the Dragon fighter from Wing Commander IV - complete with specifications (including mileage).

In 1995, Origin created several beautiful magazine covers to promote Wing Commander IV. Rather than simply capture screens from the game itself, these renderings were unique works of art. Now you can see the original resolution images, as they were created before being sent off to the magazine editors!
