BBC News’s gaming retrospective for 2008 includes an article interviewing gaming ‘luminaries’ about the future. Included are comments from Origin Founder Richard Garriott, who actually spent much of 2008 preparing for his spaceflight. As such, he doesn’t have much to look back on (beyond his unbelievable once-in-a-lifetime adventure)... but he does have a very interesting hint at the future:
After 25 years at Origin, the last thing I wanted to make was yet another medieval fantasy game. Now, after a very interesting break, I'm keen to get back into the fray and work on a new game. Probably medieval fantasy and probably online; there's something very powerful about getting people together."
Can we expect Richard Garriott Gaming Company 3? Yes is a sound bet - the day after his non-compete agreement with NCSoft expires.
