Transcript

CAPTAIN WILLIAM EISEN: Enter. Ah, Colonel. I'll be shipping out soon: I just wanted to make sure that no big deal was made of it.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Yes, sir. Lately, some of the men haven't been so sure about the missions they've been flying for Confed.

CAPTAIN WILLIAM EISEN: Oh?

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: During the war with the Kilrathi, it was easy -- loyalty to Confed required little commitment. After all, what was the alternative? Now the war is over -- second-guessing is easy. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd be shooting down my own kind.

CAPTAIN WILLIAM EISEN: Humans will always vie for power, Colonel. The Confederation may be far less than perfect, but, remember, it was the driving force behind our victory. It succeeded in uniting humanity in a way that no other institution had. That's our ultimate duty, isn't it?

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Yes. The difficulty is... how best to execute it.

CAPTAIN WILLIAM EISEN: Well... Colonel, I sincerely wish you a long and happy life. It has been an honor and a pleasure serving with you.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Thank you, sir.

eisen's cabin - eisen (optional) -c3 CONDITION: Scene available ONLY after Sceneÿ-C3 has played AND ONLY IF Blair said he would talk to Eisen in that scene.

eisen makes notes at his desk. he stops, looks at blair.

eisen I'll be shipping out soon. I'd like to make sure we don't make it too big a deal.

blair nods in understanding, sits opposite eisen.

blair (beat) Lately, some of the men aren't so sure of the missions they're flying for Confed.

eisen No? (beat; thoughtful) During the war with the Kilrathi, things were easy. Loyalty to Confed required little commitment -- because what were the alternatives? Now? With the war over? Second-guessing is easy.

blair Never thought I'd see the day where I'd be shooting down my own kind.

eisen Humans will always vie for power. The Confederation may be less than perfect. But don't forget it was the driving force behind our victory. It succeeded in uniting humanity in a way no institution ever had before.

blair That's our ultimate duty, isn't it?

eisen Yes... (long beat) The difficulty is in knowing how best to execute it.

blair stands up.

blair Well, sir...

he salutes. eisen extends his hand. they shake warmly.

eisen I sincerely wish you a long and happy life, Colonel. It's been a pleasure and an honor commanding you.
