Transcript

1ST LIEUTENANT WINSTON "VAGABOND" CHANG: Look what the solar winds blew in. Welcome aboard, Colonel. One card draw for the next drink. Better luck next time.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: So, you still living up to that callsign of yours?

1ST LIEUTENANT WINSTON "VAGABOND" CHANG: A man can do okay, 'long as he doesn't stay in one place too long. Course, I had to get greedy: stayed in the active reserve. All those monthly credits seemed like free money.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Yeah.

1ST LIEUTENANT WINSTON "VAGABOND" CHANG: Who would've figured they'd actually reinstate me? I got played for a sucker. I oughta know better, right?

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Well, I've never seen you lose a hand when it counted, Vagabond. Speaking of which, I think I owe you a drink.

officer's lounge - vagabond -b1 but some things never change...

such as the sight of 1st lieutenant winston chang -- callsign: VAGABOND -- riffling through a deck of cards like he was doc holliday. he looks up at blair, grins.

vagabond Look what the solar winds blew in. Welcome aboard, Colonel. One-card draw for the next drink?

Blair thinks it over as he takes a seat and ...

Tries his luck:

Blair nods. Vagabond puts down the deck and blair cuts. vagabond peels off a card. Blair does the same. Vagabond grins. he's got the high card.

vagabond Better luck next time. Declines:

Blair shakes his head "no". vagabond cuts the deck anyway and peels off two cards: one for blair, one for himself: Blair would have won.

vagabond See that? Man like you oughta trust his luck.

Blair just shrugs and smiles.

Blair So ... been living up to that callsign of yours?

Vagabond flashes the deck of cards.

vagabond A man can do okay ... 'long as he doesn't stay in one place too long. (more)

Vagabond (cont'd) 'course, I had to get greedy. Stayed in the active reserve. Those monthly credits seemed like free money. Who would've figured they'd actually reinstate me? (grins ruefully) I got played for a sucker. I oughta know better, right?

blair (getting up) I don't think I've ever seen you lose a hand when it counted, Vagabond.
