Wing Commander Album Impacted by Fires but Progress Continues
We have another update on the road towards Origin composer George Oldziey's next great Wing Commander album. Unfortunately progress intersected with the devastating fires in California recently. Mr. Oldziey happened to be on the ground near LA as things were happening. He and his friends are safe, but some of the folks he was visiting sadly lost their homes, and the audio studio where they were set to work on the album mix was also without power for the trip.
Although this will slightly slow completion of the project, work still continues remotely as George continues to finalize the sound with expert audio engineer Bruce Botnick. He's also put together this impressive sample to give fans a taste of what's to come!
Greetings all. I wanted to offer a quick update as to the progress of the project. As I mentioned in a previous update I was planning to fly to LA to have the great Bruce Botnick mix all the tracks. My wife Suzi and I left Boston on January 7th. At the time we left there were no fires burning as yet in LA. By the time we were approaching LAX we could see the fires from the air, looking like volcanoes and lava flows. We landed safely and thankfully our hosts' residence was not in danger. However, Bruce's studio, even though not in a part of the area ordered to evacuate, was on alert and often lost power for long stretches of time. Needless to say we did not get any mixing done. I mostly spent my time there hugging dear friends who did lose everything. The good news is that we are completing the process but remotely, which has absolutely NO impact on quality, just in terms of schedule since I have to review mixes one at a time and then Bruce tweaks. Some times that goes back and forth a few times but we are getting some wonderful work done.
As a teaser, here is his mix of the Winning Endgame from WC3. I downloaded a video of it from Youtube and lined up the new audio and it works great! It's definitely a composer's mix :)
Hope you enjoy!
Musically yours,
George
