Wing Commander on GameTap
In 2007, the GameTap pay service allowed subscribers to access three classic Wing Commander games: the original, Vengeance of the Kilrathi and The Price of Freedom. The games were emulated to run correctly on modern PCs, allowing both old and new fans to experience them. Wing Commander fans eagerly followed the releases, happy to be able to legally aquire the games. They were ultimately disappointed when GameTap declined to renew its contract with Electronic Arts and all EA titles were removed on December 11, 2007. This archive is intended to collect some of the material collected during the all-too-brief GameTap era.
Releases-
- Wing Commander - April 6th (Easter Egg), April 12th (Official)

GameTap published PDF versions of several Wing Commander manuals.
The following advertising was created to promote Wing Commander's release. The original game was originally put out roughly a week early under the name 'Tiger Claw' as part of an 'easter egg' promotion.
GameTap's internal TV/advertising system ran an trailer for Wing Commander around the time of the first release. It can be downloaded here (1.1 MB, WMV)
In February 2006, over a year before Wing Commander was released, GameTap announced their relationship with Electronic Arts - and promised to release Privateer in several pieces of advertising (pictured). The game was never made available through the service.
