If the wormhole gets built, it can stay built for a couple of million years since all the power comes from the star system. We won't be able to reverse the effects.
Yeah...but if we can own the Confed side of the hole, we can mine it; or put turrets all over it, and keep the aliens from controlling both sides. Maybe we could lob a few nukes at them.
