Final Three Days Of Album Campaign
We're now entering the home stretch for George Oldziey's second Wing Commander album. Less than three days now remain, and the campaign is sitting pretty at nearly $16,000. Since it crossed the $15K threshold over the weekend, the project will proceed, and fans will at least get a digital reorchestration of Wing Commander music that combines with a live WC jazz component. George also continues to update fans with interesting history along the way, however, and his latest update has to do with the main theme that players hear when they enter the Victory's bar. Give it a listen and read about the inspiration below!
Greetings all! First of all, I'm elated that we've already made the goal of $15K for phase one of the campaign. Thank you all SO much for your incredible support! I'll be announcing some more short term goals for the next 5 days to help cover some of the costs that will be part of the upcoming phase 2 campaign. In the mean time, as a follow up to the video I gave you all explaining the process of creating the original bar music for Wing Commander, here is a brief description of the process of creating this iconic bar tune! As in the previous example, I "borrowed" the chord progression from a pre-existing jazz standard called "Donna Lee", which was composed by the great jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker. Here is a rendition of his original recording of that tune.
Actually, Charlie Parker also "borrowed" the exact same chord progression from an even OLDER song called "Back Home in Indiana". Here is a rendition of the jazz icon Louie Armstrong performing that song. See if you can hear the similarities of all three renditions. So, when it comes time to record the bar music version with live players I'll have the sheet music all prepared for them to read! More to come!Musically yours,
George
