The piece discusses some of the background and reason why companies are interested in dividing games into chunks, and it mentions Secret Ops as a pioneer of the concept. What is left up to speculation is whether audiences will pay for the experience, but I think the genre has already seen enough success for it to happily coexist with traditional games in the foreseeable future.
