Sound in space

I blew up a few times in that patrol mission where you escort two freighters, and then am joined by Jazz after his rendezvous with his Kilrathi contact. :) But other than that, I don't recall the Epee being that bad.

Isn't the Epee one of the newer ships in WC2? As in ITTS.

I enjoyed the Epee's maneuverability, its ITTS system,
and it's speed ...

but it was all cancelled out by the fact that the
thing is basically a hot-air balloon in space. Just
poke it once and POP! it blows. :).

If the Epee had just had a little more shields and
armor, it might've been my favorite craft. Instead,
next to the Hornet, it is wayyy down at the bottom
of the list.

The Epee is a great fighter... If you use it right. I think it is the TIE Fighter of the Confederation, it packs a great punch and is very fast, but just don't get hit...

I've flown TIE fighters in the SW games -- and my opinion
of the TIE fighter is the same as that of the Epee --
quick, light, maneuverable, but as vulnerable as a
snail out of its shell.

I'll trade a bit of that speed and maneuverability for
a bit better shields. Speed and maneuverability are
fine in a 1v1 dogfight but when I'm in a Many-v-many
furball, I can't dodge everything. I can be blindsided
by any number of craft, blasted by a capital ship, or
zapped by friendly fire. When that happens, I would
like to be able to survive a couple of hits. So in
SW I'll take the Gunboat over the TIE fighter, and in
WC I'll take the Raptor/Sabre/Excalibur/Dragon/Vampire
over the Hornet/Epee/Banshee/Piranha.

But I will make an exception for the Arrow! That is
a sweet ship.

I liked the Epee and I liked the Hornet. They were good light fighters. When I fly a light fighter, I know I cannot take much damage, so I try to avoid it and there the speed and agility of the light fighter comes in handy. I believe some of you guys are spoilt by the Arrow, a light fighter with as much shield as a heavy Kilrathi fighter.
I admit that the missions against the other confed crafts, Ferrets and Epees are not that easy, but against Kilrathi ships the Epee is a fine ship. I found the main problem against the pirates/renegades was that the shields on the Confed ships recharge that damn fast.
BTW, do the pirate Epees/Ferrets not only have 1 of their cannons?

Not uncommon to find a light armored craft be fast and extremely manuverable. There are trade offs. I like a well balanced craft, such as the Centurion, Panther, Hellcat, Banshee and the Vampire.

RFB

I am sorry but I just have to say it: the Hellcat is NOT well-balanced. She is just useless.
And the Vampire is not well-balanced too IMHO, she is just short of perfect. :)

I thought that the Hellcat was a good all around ship. It can be useless in certian situations, but you dont throw a Hellcat against cap ships! The Hellcat is not a bomber nor a good platform to take out turrets on a cap ship, it does not have the shielding and armor for such a mission. General patrol, escort and defend missions maybe, but to take out capships, na, I would settle for the Shrike or Longbow to do that.

RFB

Against Capships the Hellcat was useless, as you said. But I also found her useless against fighters when compared to the Arrow or TBolt.

Naturally it wouldnt fair up compared to the Arrow or Tbolt simply cause the Arrow was extremely fast and manuverable, the Tbolt had guns out the arse and heavy shields and armor. Both those ships (Arrow&Tbolt) would fall into specific mission craft, and the Hellcat a general purpose craft similar to the Tigershark compared to the Panther. I loved those intercept missions in that Arrow! The Tbolt would shrivel up things in no time! They (Tbolt) were excellent for taking out capship defenses, but I wouldnt want to use an Arrow for that type of mission either. The Arrow, although fast and nimble, has weak shields and armor compared to the Tbolt. They both are good for their specific tasks they were designed for.

RFB

But I found that the Tigershark had advantages over the Piranha that made her an equal, actually I liked the Tigershark far more than the Piranha, because she was far heavier armed.
The hellcat on the other hand had no advantages over the Arrow or the TBolt that made her an equal. Hellcat's guns were only a bit stronger than the Arrow's (at considerably shorter range) but traded for that damage and 40cm more protection 2 missiles, 100kps of top speed and a good deal of maneuvrability.
I just hate it when ships are just useless, that's what annoyed me so much in Priv2. All those ships to buy, yet only very few of them were it worth. (except if you have some little RFB magic ;) )

LOL!! RFB magic! I never thought of it that way! But so true about P2 and all those ships to purchase. I was suprised the first time I played P2 and saw all those pretty ships in the booth. Then I would look at my creds and it was like a ton of bricks hitting me!! "Oh man, I got a long way to go just to upgrade to a Shaman!" Now I fly around in my Jancilla Skull outrunning every enemy in that game, except of course the Jancillas in their Skulls! 3 Kraven MKIV's look awsome on that Skull!!

RFB

I believe that. :)
It is just a mockery when the Priv2 package raves about the great number of player ships to buy. They forgot to note that only 4 of them are actually not entirey worthless...

So true!! I hope the P2edit proggie worked ok for ya. I found something else about that proggie, looking at it with a hex editor, I think there is a way to add the Talon that floats around in the game to the list of ships you can fly. If I can get it to do that, I will let all know who is interested in that proggie. I just wish I could find or contact the author of that editor.

RFB

I could only have a short look at it but it sure made me think of wonderful things... :) Now, that I have more time I will use it surely a lot more often.
And including that Talon would be great!

That's why the Hornet and Epee are good reconnaissance fighters, NOT patrol fighters...

If they come up against heavier fighters, they should try to evade... OF COURSE, no one wants to do that in a WC game ;), hence the Epee sucks!
(I still like the Hornet, but it can't take much of a beating either)...

But the Epee was classified as a Light ATTACK Fighter so avoiding enemies would kinda be stupid. And her Particle cannons made her quite a threat for Jalkehis or Grikaths as they were too slow and sluggish to avoid her fire.

Epees are great attack fighters. Two long-range guns and DF missiles allow the ship to excell in frontal assaults. The only bad thing is that someone may get behind you. IF someone gets behind you...let's just say don't let someone get behind your Epee. Even stripped down pirate fighters can smash you to space dust faster than a tachyon.

AH! Try going head-on a Grikath or a Jalkehi... as you exchange fire, who do you think is gonna fry first?

You'll be happy to notice it won't be one of your kitty kitty friends, Mekt... ;)
