Maniac killed Robin!

"Official Bonds"? All of them are official, maybe even the Un-Bond "Never Say Never Again", since there were disputes over who actually wrote "Thunderball" (which I thought NSNA was a great remake of Thunderball, BTW). Lazenby was just a bad choice, and the story of OHMSS was full of holes, and Bond should never have been married (though it did give provide some really good moments later in the series), etc etc.

Connnery was great, he is the Bond everyone is compared to. Suave, lethal, cold and also just enough sarcasm to be funny.

Lazenby was just a bad choice, "Lets get an Austrian model to be the next Bond, its just a face right?" (Though it did apparently lead to an amusing D*C story ;) ).

Moore was the "funny" Bond. He was great for a '70's crowd. Womanizer, amusing almost to fault, but lost the cold element of the Bond character (Even in the "cold" moments, like avenging the Countess' death in For Your Eyes Only, Moore just couldn't pull it off).

Dalton is at fault only for doing his research. Timmy's bond is the closest to Fleming's literary Bond as you'll find in any of the movies, thanks to a ton of reading done by Dalton. The eeriely cold, suave, aloof, lethal and the smallest bit of sarcasm is the "Book Bond" played perfectly. Too bad that's not what audiences are after.

Enter Brosnan, who IMHO, has the skills to be the best of all the Bonds. He can combine the wit of Moore and the detached coldness of Dalton into a better "Bond package" than even Connery could pull off. Problem is where almost all of the previous Bonds relied on their abilities and wits to pull them out of situations (with a lttle help from Q), Brosnan has to rely on flashy, Q-branch gizmos or fast-paced, non-stop action to keep the masses enthralled. He very rarely has the chance to actually "act" (He's had his moments in Goldeneye, TND and TWINE, and did it well, but not enough to let the audience into "Brosnan's Bond" IMHO).

Clive IMO, would have been a return to the colder side of Bond, ala Dalton and may not have had the "lighter side" that makes a good "movie Bond" as the press release said.
Anyway, theres my Bond rant, way off-topic but if the thread degenerates that way, I apologize to the originator of the latest "WC characters have been in other things and I can't just look at the IMDB!" thread :)

I think 'Never Say Never Again' and the two Casino Royales are considered the 'unofficial' Bonds.

Some of the more hardcore 007 fans argue that ol Georgie Boy was the best of the Bonds. (I happen to disagree, but he is a sight better than Dalton)

Never heard of people preferring George... how weird.
I like Brosnan, maybe the problem is the script, with too many gadgets and explosions.

But I dislike Moore, he's too much of a parody. The movie with the Space Shuttles is quite offensive to brazilians.

Well, it's really stupid. The simpsons was more acurate, even though no one ever danced conga in here. In the bond movie, nothing made any sense. It would be easier to list the stupid things over the phone or icq.

Terry Gilliam would argue against that statement, as would Franklin Schaffner.

Nice references. But I don't think "Brazil" was about Brazil in any sense more then the music. As for the accuracy of the cloning totalitarian dictators movie, I don't know.

Connery, Brosnan, Dalton, Moore, Lazenby. In order.

Brosnan movies are flashy action flicks, but that is to be expected in this "instant gratification" society in the US. He brings a sinister quality back into the franchise, that Connery had.

Oh and what about the rumors of the next Bond being black, I think Brosnan says he wants Cuba Gooding Jr. Just a thought

Dalton was probably the "darkest" of all the Bonds but I just didn't care for him in the roll. I do love him in other things though.
