Wing Commander IV DVD edition on Linux

Be aware that I have not tested this myself, but if it's true then this might be the final answer for Windows 95/98 on Linux... https://github.com/kjliew/qemu-3dfx It's a 3DFX Accelerator plugin for QEMU Virtual Machines. Run Windows 95/98 as a VM and have accelerated graphics. I've waited a LONG time for a project like this to come.

If emulation is the way with the origional patch, I believe PCemu/86box already have 3dfx emulation. Though it's a pain to set up. Honestly I think the method for playing these movies, specifically Odvs' enhanced versions just needs to be redone from the ground up.

Registered just to share that I found getting gameplay to work was easy with the patch here and setting the renderer to legacy. Works fairly well! Interactable screens work flawlessly far as I can tell too.

Sadly I'm also on the boat where the major hurdle with getting the GOG Windows version to run is the cutsceens. No audio aside from choosing paths and no video besides rainbow bars. I tried every version of Proton, even Proton GE. I installed apps and dlls with Protontweaks to no beneficial end.

Using VLC player with Protontweaks and running under Proton, I can play the video files directly, but it doesn't affect the game at all regardless of the codecs installed with any of the available settings from the patch I linked above.

After two days of experimenting and no progress, I'm throwing in the towel and playing the DOS version. After how great Privateer 2 got running in Windows mode on SteamDeck, it's a bummer the same isn't true for WCIV.
