What would you want to find in a fighter?

It doesn't have to be a good infighter -- it's invisibility should give it more than enough edge.

I don't know...I could handle Strakha with ease. If you put a pilot in there that knows when to cloak and uncloak at the proper times, then yes, there is an edge. Inexperienced pilots shouldn't be put in something like that, because if there's a situation where a sniper-fighter get's caught.....

A Broadsword with top and bottom turrets would do the job. The top and bottom turrets should then have the feature to be locked so that you can use them as primary guns if desired.
Three massdrivers and four neutron guns!

Hey: a friend and I (or is it me) were talking about the devestator a while ago. It has a manual rear turret, 2 manual side turrets and 2 automated side/front turrets, right? Or am I mistaken?

Well, looks like you want a kind of "modern" B-17 in WC...

Yeah, that would be Lynx' kickass SuperBroadsword known for tearing cats into pieces within seconds. I like these dual neutron turrets, very, very useful.

Hmmm, it would have a quite limited firing arc, so I suppose that mounting two fixed neutron guns facing forward would be just as effective, and cheaper, too... and you don't risk having your engines shot up by some rookie gunner :)

Lol, that would destroy confeds morale

Pilot:" I heard something, have we been hit?"
Gunner:" Ahem, that is...there's something I have to tell ya....eeeh...yeah, we have been hit!!":D

One more problem:the power drain would be gigantic. Imagine a bomber flying at 5 kps.

Pilot: "launching torpedoes"
speed-gauge: -250kps

Yippee!

Captain: "Dammit, Pilot. Can't you even kill one cap-ship?"
Pilot: "But captain, it just moves too fast."

Right, the power drain would be a problem. With that much turrets, it should have an M/AM powerplant like the Dragon instead of the normal one.

Remember, we were discussing a cloaked ship that doesn't need to uncloak to fire on someone. You can put a totally newbie pilot into the ship and put Maniac, Blair or Thrakhath in a Hellcat and they will always lose -- simply because they'll never realize they're under attack until a missile suddenly appears less than a hundred meters behind them. The inexperienced pilot only needs to know how to do this simple checklist:

1. Turn on the cloak and leave it on.
2. Fly up behind someone and get really close.
3. Cut loose with everything.
4. If your opponent survives, simply fly away and wait until he settles down before trying it again.
5. If your opponent dies, do the same thing to someone else.

Repeat until done.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

The power drain presented by multiple turrets would be taken into account by the engineers. They would provide the bomber with an adequate power plant, so power drain shouldn't be a serious problem.

I strongly agree with this...just use the range on the opponent!

And on the matter of bombers, a modern version of the Flying Fortresses we know and love, something like that would kick butt in WC. Put some in the box formation, and escorts wouldn't be needed as badly.

Turrets are no substitute for fighter escorts. And if they were WC would become less diverse and less fun.

I never thought I would say this, but I agree with Lehah. :D I've always found the idea of totally self defending bombers, such as those portrayed in Dale Brown's books, to be a little far fetched. Fighters are designed *for* the job of killing other craft, and I doubt we'll ever see a time when bomber defenses make fighters redundant.

Best, Raptor

Well, I know what I DON'T want to find in a fighter...

Sixty-four meters lengths. :)
