WCPedia - Progress Update

Here are some screenshots I took of the hardpoints on various player ships. I wish that the CZ had collapsible spoiler tags like some BBSes.

I've tried to transcribe the intro -- we could use more pairs of ears! I noted ??? where I really wasn't sure of a line--maybe a native British speaker would be better able:

1_S.TGV

CANERA COMM: Crius planet control, this is cargo 1-0-4-6 Canera. On plan and requesting ejection marker 1-1-5.

CRIUS: Very well, Canera. You are cleared for re-entry. Proceed to Mendra spaceport. Good day.

CANERA CAPTAIN: Who are those clowns?

???WOMAN: We're not at critical commence. We can't even manage to skip out.

CANERA CONN: So much for staying hypersonic. And we're too big for them to tractor in...

CANERA CAPTAIN: ... and keep us from bouncing. Range to Mendra?

CANERA COMM: Six hundred fifty.

CANERA CREWMAN: Hit it now!

CANERA COMM: Nothing left but altitude dials.
CANERA CAPTAIN: Launch all communications. Tell them to scramble all emergency equipment to Mendra. Nice try, Rog, nice try.

2_S.TGV

FREVEL: Ser Arris, if you can hear me, blink.

Excellent. I think our patient's coming

around, Douglas. You've been in an accident,

Ser. Your ship crashed while landing here on

Crius. Luckily you were in a cryopod at the

time so your injuries weren't extensive.

ARRIS: Accident? How?

FREVEL: We'll deal with that later. Our first

job is to get you back on your feet. You need

to stay with us for some rehab, it's plenty

of time.

ARRIS: Yeah, but I don't remember...

anything. What ship? What's happening?

FREVEL: The Canera, Ser Arris. We know that's

your name from your cryopod. It may take a

while for your memory to return. In the mean

time, just relax. Everything's going to be

fine.

--

COMPUTER: Exercise...

FREVEL: And how's Ser Arris this morning?

ARRIS: He's okay.

COMPUTER: Gyro session commencing.

ARRIS: I just wish he'd tell me who he was.

FREVEL: We'll get your memory back

eventually.

ARRIS: Do you treat all your patients as

though they were children, Dr. Frevel, or is

it just me?

FREVEL: I'm sorry. We find that people in

your condition usually appreciate a gentle

approach.

ARRIS: Yeah, well I'm not usual people.

FREVEL: No, I don't believe you are. We

wouldn't normally divulge this information to

patients but we did a record search on you

and it wasn't good.

ARRIS: Make my day. I'm a mass-murderer.

FREVEL: I wouldn't joke about that if I were

you. You could be almost anything. Prior to

two weeks ago, you don't exist. Either

someone's erased your records or else there

was an accident in your home planet's data

net.

ARRIS: My home planet. Geez, where is home?

Where's my family? Do I have a family? Am I

married? Do I have children? Who the hell am

I, Doctor Frevel?

FREVE: It'll come, Lev. This is all quite

normal with trauma sustained in cryo.

COMPUTER: Gyro ending.

ARRIS: Just how long was I in the icebox for?

???FREVEL: We're still working on that. But

you could afford to stay in one for the rest

of your life.

ARRIS: Meaning?

FREVEL: Meaning one thing that did come down

from your data check, your account. Only

registered about a week ago. You have an

exceptionally attractive credit rating, Ser

Arris.

COMPUTER: Gyro session commencing, please

stand clear.

???ARRIS: Otherwise there was no withdrawl

from the memory bank.

--

NURSE: Can I help you, Sers?

ASSASSIN #1: We're looking for Ser Lev Arris.

NURSE: He's in physio at the moment. Can I

ask who wants him?

ASSASSSIN #1: New Crius Examiner. We're here

to interview him about the Canera crash.

NURSE: His consultant would have to clear it

first.

ASSASSIN #2: Clear this, Mister Nurse.

NURSE: Argh!

ASSASSIN #1: You know something? I think I

could really get to enjoy this journalism

thing.

--

???FREVEL: Cryo-seceded memory loss may take

months to resolve itself. But when it does

some patients are a little disappointed. The

reality of someone's past often fails to

match up to what they'd imagined it might be.

ARRIS: Right now I'd settle for

disappointment.

FREVEL: You may have to. In time your memory

is likely to recover completely.

ARRIS: But how do I know that? How will I

ever be sure there's not one more nasty

little memory just waiting to jump me?

COMPUTER: Gyro session.ending.

--

ASSASSIN #3: Delightful. So clean. So

sterile.

ASSASSIN #4: Getting all hot and bothered,

huh?

ASSASSIN #3: I never get hot. Nor bothered.

RECEPTIONIST: Yes, Serras?

ASSASSIN #3: We're here to visit a man. I

mean, a friend who is a man. Ser Lev Arris.

???RECEPTIONIST: 5A, Serras. First line walk

on the left. Follow the... huh.

--

FREVEL: Try and take it easy for the time

being. If you overstress yourself it could

only prolong the problem.

ASSASSIN #5: Rear door locked. Autopilot

activate. Course two, go, go.

Great effort! But... are there no subtitles in P2 at all? I thought I remember having subtitles in the game... I'm probably mistaken, though.
maybe you mistake it with the text that is shown when you have to make a plot choice and lev arris speaks this text.
Other than that there are no subtitles afaik. (though maybe there's a hidden key that can be set to have them)

I've added my attempt at CD2 to the transcription!

(And if anyone follows my Facebook, there was a funny exchange with J. Allen Brack about the intro there last night.)

I've added my attempt at CD2 to the transcription!

(And if anyone follows my Facebook, there was a funny exchange with J. Allen Brack about the intro there last night.)

Great stuff!

And yeah that was quite the revelation about the intro!

While working on the new privateer 2 editor "News section" (yes, editing the current news and the planet which is affected is possible now :D), i noticed that the ingame used text slightly differs from the text wcnews has posted here.

e.g. on the news "For the Ser About System... The Tweedle Buckham VacSuit Deluxe" it says ingame "feature improvements" while in the wcnews text "future improvements".

Can someone tell me from where wcnews has this text? Is it copied by hand or from an official source? Could it be that my P2 version isn't the latest, thus having some small differences?

Another question is, if wcpedia should have the ingame text or the wcnews text?

btw, attached are 2 news posts which explain why kappa labs was really abandoned and what happened to the aliens. :D

Haha, great screenshots!

Those were all copied by hands long ago, which is why they are wrong sometimes. If you see differences make a note--I will compare them all once I can go through the news too.

I added the text for the rest of the movies to the temp script today!

I finished giving the P2 script a once over. I managed to clear up a few lines but there's definitely a bunch of stuff that still could be clarified.

Also if anyone is looking for the P2 hacking posts I've put them in their own thread here so that discussion can continue in a more clear manner, and so that this one stays more or less about the WCpedia progress.

I just noticed in Mtextr.txt of the privateer 2 text files, that there is a ship named "Sulako". Can someone tell me where in the game this ship appears?
Since there is also a string "Aliens?" in the game (see planet name here), I somehow get the impression there might be a hidden mission with a reference to the movie Aliens.

Another strange thing is the string "Asteroid", which is one index above the string "Aliens?". I've never seen an Asteroid in the game.

Progress continues!

Privateer 2 contains its move towards completion. Recently, we've started creating weapon and equipment entries.

It's pretty amazing seeing all the P2 data uploaded. We've still got quite a bit to go, but I'm confident this month we will reach my goal of doubling WCPedia since its August 2010 size. With 5 months still to go until the CIC Birthday I'm hoping we can really smash my old goal.

I have no idea if this is useful for the p2 entries or not but I'm pasting in the text that I found within the gameflow.IFF file. This is random stuff it seems... stuff that would show up while looking at the PAD inflight or something like that. But it also seems to have some pilot taunts.

In the WCPedia Project, for Privateer 2 missions; the Ralph McCloud entry;
https://www.wcnews.com/wcpedia/Ralph_McCloud

It says:
Trigger
You won't see this mission before you've had Dmitri Avignoni crack the memory solid passcode in the main plot (see Mission O: Codbreaker).

I realize that this statement is in the Official Privateer 2 Strategy Guide. It might have been tied to the Main Plot pre-patched (prior to 17.0e).

I just completed the Ralph McCloud situation AFTER "Kappa Labs" (Main Plot) but BEFORE "Meet Hassan".

After playing this game many times since it was first released, I don't think that any of the additional cinematic missions are specifically tied to any Main Plot missions; although sometimes to GET additional missions when they have "stalled", it seems sometimes you have to advance the Main Plot a step or 2 (in addition to just flying around a lot and landing in a lot of places).

(EDIT)
I just noticed... in the WCPedia for this mission, it says "see Mission O: Codbreaker". Hehehe. I didn't know there was a mission whereby the player has to "break a cod". Looks kinda fishy, to me. Also; Dimitri versus Dmitri.

It's interesting to compare this with the earlier version.

https://www.wcnews.com/archives/texts/priv2/GTEXT.TXT

I'm surprised that they kept the "POLICE" and "LEV IS DEAD" text from the prerelease version... and that "The Murray-Thew Latchford Combo" wasn't. I guess that's "Mystery 1" and "Mystery 2" there.

It's from the super-secret Leviatha prequel mission string.

I know this is more than a decade late, but in case anyone anywhere is searching: SULAKO is in the SOS mission "CIS Shuttle 013AZL". It's the name given to the shuttle... but it explodes before you can target it!
