I think he's asking why the carriers never had proper escorts...

They usually do... well, escort carriers (and strike carriers) aren't supposed to have escorts... but the Victory did in WC3, the Concordia did in WC2... the 'Lex did in WC4... and so forth. The Tiger's Claw even had a fleet back during Thor's Hammer.

You also regularly saw Transports and sometimes even an Exeter around the 'Claw after missions in WC1.
