Say Goodbye to Overmortal

LeHah

212 Squadron - "The Old Man's Eyes And Ears"
Unless this is a strange joke by LOAF (much like Frosty's LJ), it seems that OverMortal is leaving us to join the Army.

Over Mortal: but I'm enlisting tomorrow
TheCTPadawan: Serious?
Over Mortal: yyyup

He just wanted to say "make sure everyone knows how much I've appreciated knowing them" and to say sorry to Eder for reasons of voice work. I'm not sure why he couldn't come on here or #wingnut himself, but I figured that I should say something...God only knows why... but someone had to find out.

Hey, yeah, it's true. I'm trying to say goodbye to everyone I can, because I don't know what's gonna happen. I charged LeHah to carry this message for me because the computer I'm using right now is giving me fits about making posts. If you're reading this, I finally got it to work.

I'm now without a job or a home, so enlisting seems like the best thing. But, in any case, I'm pretty much banking on not having any sort of regular internet access, and I thought it better to say goodbye when I have this opportunity and possibly be wrong than to just vanish without letting everyone know how much I've appreciated them, and this place.

At any rate, I'll drop in if/when I can, but, until I get to something stable, I bid you all a very fond farewell. Thanks for caring, too :)

Good luck, good hunting, and check six!

Stepping up to the plate.

Good luck Overmortal. Do you know what paygrade and MOS you are getting? Did you do very well on the ASVAB and all of that stuff? Did you like getting that butt check at MEPS? :)

Overmortal was a good guy - I hope he knows that there will always be a place for him here.

(I also have a tremendous amount of respect for anyone who serves in the military - but Overmortal was a good guy regardless of that.)

Get down and give me 25!

Hey man! Good luck! Enjoy the revamped Army boot camp! They are gonna teach you some crazy stuff. I think you should have gone MArines like I did but the Army is a good place too. Godspeed Overmortal, I'm gonna miss the rant page.

Good luck Overmortal, thank you for the kind advice my friend.

FYI, I'm preparing to enter the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland when I graduate in order to become a Naval Aviator

Update:

Well, after waking up at a friend's house this morning (I used his computer last nite to post), there were some messages on my phone from my father. He and my mother have asked me to come back home to talk. A bit later, I got a call from a temp agency that I signed up with last week, and there's a first shift position at a distribution center that's about five minutes from my parents house.

But, I still plan to enlist! Last nite, I visited Goarmy.com and talked with a recruiter there who informed me that, even after enlisting, it's 3 to 4 months before they send you to basic. 3 to 4 months is usually about how long a temp job lasts (give or take a couple weeks), so I figure it'll be the perfect setup. I can still make payments on my vehicle, and have a place to sleep at night, and then, when time comes to leave, my affairs will be easy to tidy up.

And . . wow . . . thanks for all of your support. I'm . . . taken quite aback. In the meantime, I'll probably be around for another month or four, so I guess this whole ordeal was a bit premature. Sorry.

So you was just jerkin' our chain, huh? Well, anyway, let us know when you go for real, so's that we can REALLY say goodbye, after this here dry run.

By the way, my nephew came home safe and sound from Iraq the other day, he got shot at a few times, capped a couple of bad guys, and was security for the team that nabbed the Ace of Spades. Not a bad tour, all in all.

I hope that if you have to go over there too, that you come back safe, in one piece, and you don't have to kill anyone. I love all my Marines, Soldiers, Airmen, Russ'pickers and Coasties and want them all to come home safe to their families.

Eh, on an unrelated note (and since this thread is already more or less about me, and I don't want to start another thread), here's a song that I wrote with one of my bands a few days ago. It's in the typical 'hardcore' style, and such. We actually put on eye patches and hats for this song, because it was a small show and we wanted to be silly.

The Day the Pirates Came to Statesville

On a cold September morning
To the Statesville harbor came
Some bloodthirsty pirate sea-dogs
Come to ransom a fair dame
To the gov'nors mansion, charge
Through the windows! Break the doors!
To kidnap the gov'nors daughter
Ransom her from foreign shores

So, I went to the recruiter. I've decided that the Marines is the branch for me. As is, though, I'm roughly 15 lbs over the weight limit for my height category, so I've gotta get that down first. I figure that won't be too hard.

Just thought I'd give an update.
