New 3D Thread

I'm partial to the C model, but really anything would be great! And thank you!
No prob! I've started tinkering with one of the models, though, as the slicer seems to miss some of the submeshes when imported:

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd suppose the normals are flipped on some of them.

I've seen this kind of thing with "game meshes" they come out full of holes. You have to go into the modeler to fix it. Some programs I think can fix it automatically, but I'm not so sure. I do all my modelling in a solid modelling program so rarely see this issue, but it is correctable.

Yep, I had some issues as well with the Excalibur, which I corrected both with a dedicated software and by going in the mesh (for example removing a couple of internal faces in the mesh that led to external faces not being used by the splicer). Here, the issue seems to be on a sub-mesh level. I'll see what I can do for these in the following days and will send Klavs a version that works for printing if he wants to add them to the package.

EDIT: the more I look at it, the more the issue seems to be linked more to the internal faces.

Oh baby. I'm in love with the Rapiers all over again. I had to quickly make a thing last night because of it:

Ooo, I eagerly look forward to the Sabre, whenever it may come out.

I actually got sidetracked by the Rapier models and ended up messing with them to give each one the glory shot treatment, when I should have been working on my Starsiege video. 👀

After playing around with the Rapiers, I'm on the brink of buying your Hornet model too now. lool

Love those renders. Starsiege video. You have my attention. I Liked the old Earth/Starsiege games, well not so much tribes, but the mech based ones for sure.

Still some issues getting the Rapier to work in the slicer, but in the meantime, here's a print of Klavs' gorgeous Morningstar (although nowhere even close from LYP's print of it), with a Switch for scale:

Playing a bit with the MidJourneyAI. Just crazy stuff. I don't think traditional artists are out of a job yet, but it's certainly an incredible tool for generating ideas and concepts! Any of these feel like it could be the cover to a Scifi novel!

Using keywords like "Rapier, Tiger's Claw, Kilrathi, Spacecraft, Hornet, Starship, Aircraft Carrier" etc etc all produce crazy cool results.

And some more mostly focusing on trying to get the AI to make portraits of Geoff Tolwyn. Pretty uncanny!

Playing with the Double Helix spaceship again, fiddling with camera angles & focal lengths to make the ship appear to shift and stretch in slightly unsettling ways. It all happens probably too slowly to notice, but then maybe that's the poinnnnnnt.

Looks great... but I do miss
Its hind-quarters
Its backside
Its junk-in-the-trunk
Its badonk-a-donk
Its squash tart
Its J. Los
Its rear-slug
Its wiggle bag
Its mud flap
Its rump rocket
Its neutron pot
Its second cockpit
Its bounce house
The jiggle seat
Its drakhri popper
Its medicine ball
Its sonic boom
Its sit-biscuit
Its mumbler
Its rock tumbler
Its fun-cooker
Its subwoofer
Its horn section
Its launchpad
Mothra
The outback
The closer
Its crock pot
Its jumbo-tron
Its life's work
Its waffle iron
It’s turret protrusion.

Without the 8-ball in its be-hind, it's a bit of a grippen/flanker clone. Or the front half of an f-15... It is beautiful work though.

I purposefully made the turret smaller/remote operated, but it's still there. The Sabre just seems like such a hotrod to me, it's a waste to haul around all that badonkadonk. Second pilot operating the turret remotely makes more sense, or even the primary pilot while the secondary pilot handles the torpedo lock.

Still, it's big enough back there you could imagine a gunner being back there if you really wanted to!
