New 3D Thread

F-44Gs of TCS Concordia! I'm being more faithful to the game markings than I ever have in the past. It's tough, but I think, worth it to make a decent homage.

The C model is up next, that'll be very close to the previously established Tarawa Livery I came up with previously. I'll also be providing some blank, grey liveries so you guys can come up with schemes to your heart's delight!

I should note that all these versions will be updated into the existing Sketchfab link, so if you purchased already, the upgrades and all models will be included eventually!
One of my absolute favourite WC fighters of all time. Looks great!

If I'm not mistaken, that is the model used in Flat Universe for a CiC bithday update?

My C model is conjectural, but given the WC2 timeframe of its mention in the 'End Run' novel, I presumed it represented an earlier variant of G-model. I eliminated the two underside engines and positioned the guns all along the wings, because I like the way it looks like a WW2 fighter plane.

As for the other models:

My headcannon:

YF/F-44A (WC1)
F-44B (2 seater?)
F-44C (WC2 Configuration)
F-44D (2 seater?)
F-44E/F (Tim Allen Noises?)
F-44G WC2, Fleet Action
F-44H+ (Confused grunting?)
F-44X (Super Wing Commander/Arena Configuration)

Not sure what the Rapiers mentioned in False Colors would have been. I imagined a smattering of types and unit markings **licks lips**

As for the X appearing in SWC, I imagine that the "Super Wing Commander" Holo Vid (released post-war) was touted for the extravagance of filming with real hardware, even if that hardware was inaccurate to the 2654 events they portrayed. Also explains why the "Wing Commander" Holo Vid had a french guy playing a Scottsman!

Feel free to rehash my UBW version should you feel so inclined. :) it can be an F-44 G (add export variant initials here) that way we can further complicate your head canon tree. :D

I was thinking about the front intake version of the Rapier, I've been very humbled by how many other Rapier designs have included it over the years, I figured I would make it an option! So here's, I guess, the Rapier E, Wider Body, front intake, upper intakes deleted, extra engines like the G model. Extra hard points, extra gun positions.

Maybe the EF versions were license built by another Aerospace firm? Maybe Douglas built them under license when the Hellcat wasn't ordered in the numbers they wanted. Maybe the EF version is more robust and easier to maintain and build, but not as nimble as the C? Maybe the G is the amalgamation of the best lessons learned from the A-F? What is that intake even for? Is it for the ramscoop? Who knows! Who cares! I just like Rapiers!

Done! Needed to get that out of my head!

Free download!

Also, if anyone uses Substance Painter and wants to have a go at your own markings, the spp file is here:

Enjoy!

We got our first 3D printer at our family workshop, and after calibrating it with a provided file, my first move was to test it with a more... complex shape, AKA Klavs' very own Excalibur. 6 centimetres long for a first run to see how well it'd work and what additional actions I'd have to take, but it's looking pretty nice already even if I´ll have to ensure the layering leaves no holes before smoothing out a full-sized ship:

Quite a good result for that side and shape! Will look very decent once you've cleaned up the excess material.

Thanks! Definitely a first attempt to understand the specifics of 3D printing. I've shown it to my 91-yo grandfather, who's the family specialist in CAD and 3D design (he'll be the main user of the printer) and we've agreed that the next move should be to print a slightly larger test version vertically after he adds an easily-removable base to the model's rear. This should seriously reduce the issues concerning excess material, I suppose (the bottom of this run is quite ugly since I used a model-wide auto-generated base).

Second run finished, this time with one of Klavs' Rapier. I've printed it vertically and it is simply gorgeous!

I've started printing a real-life plane now, with quite larger dimensions, but once I'm confident with it, I'll go for a large Excalibur since it's my favourite sci-fi fighter.

And after 19 hours, here's the 20 centimetres long version. Really, really happy with it even though painting it will be a much more complex endeavour.

Thanks so much, Klavs, for this superb model of yours!

Hi everybody, the F-44 Sketchfab model has been updated to include the A, C, E, and G model Rapiers. If you purchased it previously you should be able to download the new version at no cost.

Also, here is a link to a bunch of different high resolution (8k) liveries, including generic grey ones, as well as the substance painter file, so you can create paint schemes to your heart's content!

Also also, I appreciate the financial support if you can, but if you can't or don't want to pay, here are the 3D files for free.

Enjoy!

Bought it right now, I'll see to print one of them this week, so is there any you'd like to see in 20 cm long format à la Excalibur?
