EXT. SPACE -- G'MARRA SYSTEM

Two Piranhas scream into frame. They're piloted by LANCE CASEY
and MAESTRO, newly graduated cadets from the Confed Flight
Academy.

CAPTION: Nephele System.

CASEY
(V.0.)
C'mon, Maestro, lost your touch?
MAESTRO
(V.0.)
Just limbering up, pal.

They bob and weave in the blackness, trying to outrun each
other.

CASEY
(V.0.)
I've been ahead of you since tre
last jump point.
MAESTRO
(V.0.)
Watch and learn from the Maestro
himself.

Maestro accelerates, moving dangerously close to Casey.

CASEY
(V.0.)
Ooooohh...can't beat me that easy!

Casey pours it on and leaves Maestro in the dust as the first
distant glimpse of a Confed carrier appears on the black
horizon.

ANDERSON
(V.0.)
Incoming Piranhas, this is the TCS
Midway. You are entering
restricted Confed military space.
Reduce speed to zero-six-zero and
set approach vector to E-44. Do
you copy?
CASEY
(V.0.)
Awww, it was just getting
interesting. (beat) Midway we read
you. Reducing speed and adjusting
vector for approach.
(CONTINUED)

MAESTRO
(V.0.)
Take us around back, Casey. I've
been looking forward to this for a
long time.
CASEY
(V.0.)
You act like teenager on a first
date.

The space fighters bank and turn.

CASEY
(V.0.)
Wow, lock at her! (beat) I just
hope they got all the bugs worked
cut.
MAESTRO
Relax. Except for routine tours,
Confed hasn't seen any action in
years.

EXT. SPACE --MIDWAY

Glory approach of the two fighters.

ANDERSON
(V.0.)
Welcome to the Midway. You are
cleared for landing.

They land their ships on the FLIGHT DECK.

INT. FLIGHT DECK

Casey and Maestro walk away from their fighters, flight bags in
hand, heading towards the DECONTAMINATION CHUTE.

MAESTRO
This is it, Case, the big time.
CASEY
Great, our first duty--ferrying
Piranhas to some hi-tech bucket of
bolts in a jerkwater system.

MAESTRO
Perspective, Mr. Casey. I've
brought something that'll make the
long cold nights here breeze by,
especially with the right
company...

Maestro produces a bottle.

CASEY
Altairian Brandy! Isn't that
contraband? Where'd you get it?
MAESTRO
Call it a diplomatic perk. From
the Consulate General's privat
reserve.
CASEY
Well, put it away, Stoop, before we
end up in the brig.
MAESTRO
What are you worried about, Casey?
This ain't flight school anymore.

He begins to pack the bottle back into his bag on the deck.

STILETTO (OS)
TEN-HUT!

They stand abruptly. Maestro's bag falls open and the bottle
rolls forward across the floor- -onlyto be stopped by a black
boot. A hand reaches down and picks up the bottle. They follow
it from the boot...into the eyes of STILETTO. She studies the
bottle for a moment.

STILETTO
Second Lieutenants Casey and
Garrett, I presume.

Casey nods.

STILETTO
First Lieutenant Jean Talvert,
cailsign Stiletto. I'm acting
commander of the Diamondback
Sauadron...your initial assignment
here on the Midway.

She glances down at her hand-held ICIS, checking their orders.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED: (2)

MAESTRO
(aside to Casey)
How'd a First Lieutenant rate a
whole squadron?
STILETTO
(not looking up)
Because I'm that good, Mr. Garrett.
(something catches her
eye on the ICIS)
Apparently your reputation proceeds
you. It seems the CAG would like
to discuss that little incident
with the Aitairian Consulate's
daughter.
CASEY
(aside to Maestro)
So, it really was his private
reserve?!

Eyes cold, Stiletto turns her attention to Casey.

STILETTO
And you...Mr. Casey, if you think
that having a famous father will
cut you any slack around here,
you're dead wrong.
CASEY
Respectfully, I'm here on my own
merits.
STILETTO
Let's hope so, because around here
you live or die by your flight
stats. Understood?
CASEY
I collected the highest scores of
any cadet at the Academy--

She cocks an eyebrow.

CASEY
--Sir.
STILETTO
Along with the most demerits, as I
understand it?
(she moves closer)
This is a make or break shakedown
cruise for us...
(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED: (3)

STILETTO (Cont'd)
and I don't have time to play
babysitter. Got it? Now get
yourselves registered on the system
and--
(she tosses Maestro the
bottle; he almost
drops it)
--stow this swag before the CAG
sees it. You're in enough trouble
as it is.

Stiletto shoots them a hard glare, but almost smiles to herself
as she turns and walks off.

CASEY
Well...that went well.
MAESTRO
Welcome to the Midway.

Main credits end. Casey just shakes his head and turns to log
in to the system. He hits a few switches on the console.

(CG: Console screen comes to life.)

Casey logs in. In an ANGLE from screen, they gather their gear.

PROLOGUE

fade in:

EXT. SPACE - ASTEROID FIELD

CAPTION UP reads: Kilrah System. Hold on the vast, seemingly
endless field for a moment, then a huge, tumbling ASTEROID
appears from BEHIND CAMERA.

Track with the enormous rock until it is suddenly bathed in the GLOW
of a TRACTOR BEAM, freezing it in place. As a BRILLIANT LASER hacks
into the asteroid, we REVEAL...

THE DEVERAUX (BEGIN CREDITS)

A LARGE RESEARCH VESSEL. It cuts into the asteroid with an ore laser,
exposing a wide gash of glittering, glowing substrata. After several
layers are ripped away, the laser disengages and backs off. We HEAR:

DEVERAUX'S CAPTAIN (VO)

Initial recovery phase complete. Begin core extraction.

SEVERAL SMALLER VESSELS

Close in to pick at the tumbling rock with their grabber arms like
eager crustaceans. We hear comm chatter from the various pilots...

VARIOUS ND PILOTS (VO)

Initiating core sample extraction... specimen analysis proceeding as
per -- watch out!

A chunk of the asteroid breaks off, spinning away. The smaller
vessels scatter, barely avoiding collision.

ON THE DEVERAUX'S BELLY

A hatch opens, another SMALL VESSEL drops into view...

DEVERAUX'S CAPTAIN (VO)

Launching pursuit team. Good hunting, people.

... and zips off after the runaway asteroid. GO TO:

INT. SMALL SHIP - PURSUING ASTEROID CHUNK

Packed with instrumentation; there is barely enough room for its two
person (human) crew, MONROE (female, 38, sharp, knowledgeable) and
O'NEIL (48, balding, and a longtime colleague.) Sunlight pours
through the craft's forward observation dome; illuminating their
faces.

O'Neil

She's coming up fast.

Monroe

(all business)
Tap reverse thrusters; deploy manipulator arm.

EXT. SPACE - THE SMALL VESSEL AND THE RUNAWAY ASTEROID

As it approaches the tumbling chunk and latches onto it with an
articulating claw.

INT. SMALL SHIP - MONROE AND O'NEIL

Tapping controls with smooth, practiced movements.

O’Neil

Gotcha.

MONROE

Time to take her home --

She breaks off as an INTENSE RED GLOW suddenly pours through the
forward dome.

EXT. SPACE - THE SHATTERED REMAINS OF KILRAH

The semi-exposed core of the planet still glows with internal
radiation, while some of the magma remains flash frozen in the cold
of space, creating a grotesque but fascinating sculpture of
destruction, surrounded by slowly spinning asteroids.

The small ship flies through the shot; the shattered heart of Kilrah
dwarfing it.

INT. SMALL SHIP - MONROE AND O'NEIL

Their faces bathed in the dead planet's RED GLOW. O'Neil is pale.
Monroe manages a smile.

MONROE

Relax, O'Neil. Kilrah is a dead planet; she can't hurt you.

O'NEIL

But the Kilrathi can. You think the Sivar Renegades like the idea of
grave robbers picking through the bones of their home world?

MONROE

(heated)
First of all, we're not grave robbers; we're scientists. And second -
- the nearest Renegades are at least two jumps away --

Their sensor panels suddenly light up like a Christmas tree. O'Neil
reacts to the data on his console...

O'NEIL

We have an Unknown Object. Close enough to touch.

EXT. SPACE

A tiny, strangely shaped device drifts in the void of space;
seemingly inert. As the Small Ship closes in...

INT. SMALL SHIP - PURSUING ALIEN DEVICE

Monroe quickly taps a series of controls.

O'NEIL

Analysis?

MONROE

Indefinite. Could be space junk; a probe of some kind...

O'NEIL

Or a Sivar spy eye.

They exchange tense looks. Monroe shrugs.

MONROE

The odds are against it. Let's bring it in.

O'NEIL

And what if it is a spy eye, and it's booby-trapped?

MONROE

(dry)
Then your ex-wife goes to bed tonight with a big smile on her face.

EXT. SPACE - THE SMALLER VESSEL AND THE ALIEN probe

Slowly and carefully, the smaller vessel tries to lock onto the probe
with another articulating claw.

INT. SMALL SHIP - PURSUING ALIEN DEVICE

The two scientists observe as the alien probe looms beyond the clear
observation dome; dead ahead. Tension builds while the claw closes in
on it. Then...

EXT. SPACE - THE ALIEN PROBE

Abruptly comes to life, small thrusters blazing on its sides. It
dodges away from the grasping claw and zips up to the small vessel --
to scan it with a BRIGHT BEAM. As this beam slowly sweeps across the
tiny ship...

INT. SMALL SHIP - ON MONROE AND O'NEIL

The probe's Beam spills through the clear, glass dome, emitting a
shrill, alien SOUND as it bathes the two scientists in an intense
glow. They scream in pain, grabbing their ears. Every console goes
crazy; alarms sound, lights flash.

Then their vessel abruptly loses power; consoles and systems whining
down. The beam passes on; the stunned scientists now illuminated only
by the indirect sunlight pouring in through the craft's observation
dome. Then the emergency power comes on-line; providing limited
illumination as a shaken O'Neil vainly taps controls.

O'NEIL

Main systems down; backups barely functioning.

MONROE

(to comm)
Devereaux. This is Pursuit Team One. We require assistance.
Devereaux...

Nothing but static in reply. Then O'Neil taps Monroe, points off.
They both stare through the dome at...

EXT. space - the alien probe

Turns about to point toward empty space. Its tip begins to GLOW... we
hear another STRANGE SOUND... and then WAVES OF VARIEGATED ENERGY
RIPPLE OUT from the probe --

INT. SMALL SHIP - ON MONROE AND O'NEIL

Monroe and O'Neil are suddenly and violently buffeted from side to
side as...

EXT. SPACE - NEAR SMALL SHIP

In a burst of light and color, A GIANT WORMHOLE GATE dramatically
appears. Like the jaws of a huge speculum; the gate's four "towers"
slowly "force" open this area of space -- two on each side like twin
pairs of folding scissors facing each other -- then lock into place.
We get a chilling glimpse of the SWIRLING, MULTI-COLORED channel of
the WORMHOLE beyond the four, gateway towers -- then giant, shadowy
forms appear inside it.

The dark forms glide through the gate and into a stunning FULL SHOT.
We see two, distinctive ALIEN CAPITAL SHIPS (our SHIP KILLERS) and
several much smaller (and similar to each other) FIGHTER-STYLE CRAFT.

One Ship Killer pulls away from the other vessels. It passes close to
the asteroid and the tiny vessel still attached to it.

INT. THE SMALL SHIP - ON MONROE AND O'NEIL

The two react with fear as the huge Ship Killer passes so close it
threatens to crush them against the nearby asteroid; its vast,
endless hull filling the dome.

O'NEIL

Dear God!

EXT. SPACE - THE SHIP KILLER

As it heads toward the Devereaux and her support vessels. We hear her
Captain's hail...

DEVERAUX'S CAPTAIN (VO)

Unknown alien craft -- this is the Confederation Research Vessel
Devereaux. Do you read me?

INT. DEVERAUX COMM STATION

The ship's CAPTAIN stands over a COMM TECH at her console; the huge,
alien ship visible on a VIEWSCREEN.

DEVERAUX'S CAPTAIN

Please acknowledge. What are your intentions?

They both react as a large, distinctive deflector shield flares to
life on the nose of the first Ship Killer.

ext. space - the first ship killer

The glow of its deflector shield reaches an incandescent level, then
emits a SWIRLING BALL OF ENERGY PLASMA. At its center is a tiny,
glowing ENERGY EMITTER; the power source for the PLASMA BALL.

This streaks toward the Devereaux and strikes it amidships. BLUE ARCS
of GLOWING ELECTRICITY crackle across the Devereaux, which glows red,
then white hot, then EXPLODES.

Not only the Devereaux, but all her support vessels evaporate in a
cloud of flaming debris; a mini-nova of amazing force.

PAN off this devastation to reveal Monroe and O'Neil's small ship
still adrift, and intact, behind the Ship Killer.

INT. SMALL SHIP - ON MONROE AND O'NEIL

A shock wave knocks the craft loose from the asteroid and it spins
off; out of control. The two scientists cry out with fear as they
tumble towards...

EXT. SPACE - A VERY DENSE ASTEROID FIELD

The rubble of Kilrah.

INT. SMALL SHIP - ON MONROE AND O'NEIL

Monroe grabs the controls, thrusting this way and that through the
nightmarish maze of destruction visible beyond the dome. O'Neil
reacts to a console.

O'NEIL

Deflectors at half power and falling.

MONROE

Channel auxiliary power to deflectors, activate emergency
thrusters...

INT. SMALL SHIP - ON MONROE AND O'NEIL

They eventually emerge, miraculously intact, on the other side of the
field -- and settle to a stop.

INT. SMALL SHIP - ON MONROE AND O'NEIL

As they both sigh with relief.

MONROE

For my next trick...

And then a shadow looms over them through the dome...

EXT. SPACE - SCIENTISTS' VESSEL AND ALIEN SHIP

One of the small craft closes in on the scientists' tiny vessel. The
nose of the alien ship SHIMMERS, becoming semi-translucent as it
reveals the vague, inhuman shape of its pilot.

INT. SMALL SHIP - ON MONROE AND O'NEIL

Monroe and O'Neil stare at the alien ship and its bizarre pilot...

O'NEIL

Your move, beautiful.

A SHARP CLANG overhead; the entire ship shakes. Both scientists look
up in shock as...

EXT. SPACE - SCIENTISTS' VESSEL

Another alien ship has clamped down on the scientists' vessel from
above!

INT. THE SMALL VESSEL - MONROE and O'NEIL

The ceiling hatch's locking wheel begins to nudge forward. O'Neil
leaps from his seat, tries to hold the wheel shut, finally blocking
it with a large spanner. This works for a moment...

... until sparks fly from the hull as some kind of cutting torch
begins to burn through the steel. Monroe just looks up at this;
stunned.

O'NEIL

Monroe, release the jump capable distress beacon. Monroe!

She doesn't respond. O'Neil reaches over her and quickly presses a
series of buttons.

EXT. HULL OF SMALL VESSEL

As the DISTRESS BEACON roars out of the ship...

INT. THE SMALL VESSEL - MONROE and O'NEIL

... the two scientists back away as the torch cuts through the
hatch... it falls outward with a metallic clang. We cannot see much
of anything in the alien ship above except a glowing mist and a
bizarre, golden light.

The two humans wait for a beat. At first there are only shadows in
the void above them... and eerie sounds... primordial whispers. Then
we GO TO:

INT. THE alien VESSEL - an alien pov

Rounding a bend in the other ship, charging through the glowing mist.
It moves insanely fast toward the open hatch in the deck of the alien
ship, then rushes toward the two horrified humans below. As they
scream...

EXT. SPACE - long shot on SMALL VESSEL and alien ship

The screams slowly trail away; the small vessel lit by the alien,
golden light from within. Then it all stops. All light, all sound...
gone.

ANGLE ON THE WORMHOLE

And the vast fleet of alien ships now pouring through it. GO TO:

AN ANGLE ON THE DISTRESS BEACON

We see it racing toward us, then GO TO...

... a REVERSE SHOT of the beacon as it roars away from us, dwindling
from view -- then a flash of light as it JUMPS out of the system.

RUN TITLE AND REMAINING CREDITS. Then...

INT. MIDWAY FLIGHT DECK

Casey and Maestro are walking away from their fighters and headed toward
the DECONTAMINATION CHUTE when they hear the sharp tap of steel-toed boots
on a metal deck. They turn to SEE...

... A handsome young woman headed their way. This is STILETTO; cool, tough,
and sharp as a knife. She refers to a hand-held ICIS.

STILETTO
Lieutenants Casey; Garrett?

Casey nods.

CASEY
I'm Casey. You can call this silly
looking guy Maestro.
MAESTRO
And you, sweet thing, are?
STILETTO
Second Lieutenant Talvert; call sign
Stiletto. I'm acting Commander of the
Diamondback Squadron; your initial
assignment on the Midway.

Maestro reacts with a mock grimace:

MAESTRO
My hearing must be slurred. I thought
you said a second looey is our new
squad boss.

Stiletto smiles at him; she's gonna enjoy this.

STILETTO
And I've heard about you, Maestro. The
business with the Altarian consulate's
daughter --
MAESTRO
-- That was a misunderstanding --

STILETTO

She's waiting for you in Flight OPS.
And I wouldn't call her "sweet thing"
if I were you.

Casey grins at Maestro.

CASEY
Keep swinging, Maestro. You got her on
the ropes.

Eyes cold, Stiletto turns her attention to Casey.

STILETTO
And I know about you, too, handsome.
You and your famous father. What's it
like being the Iceman's son?
CASEY
(sharp) I have to answer a lot of
stupid questions.

Stiletto didn't see that one coming; but she recovers quickly.

STILETTO
Now hear this, rookie. If you expect a
free ride on your Dad's coattails --
CASEY
He has nothing to do with this.
STILETTO
I agree. Around here, you live or die
by your flight stats.
CASEY
I collected the highest scores of any

STILETTO
(referring to ICIS)
-- along with the most demerits.

CASEY
I still graduated with honors. I'm a
damn good pilot.
STILETTO
Ferrying a Piranha is one thing;
combat, quite another.
CASEY
Oh, and you've seen lots of combat?

Stiletto shoots him a hard glare, then turns and walks off. Casey and
Maestro exchange looks:

MAESTRO
Welcome to the Midway.

Casey just shakes his head while a pair of ND FLIGHT DECK TECHS come up and
take their helmets. As Casey and Maestro start to peel out of their flight
suits...

Wing Commander: Prophecy

Teaser

INT KILRATHI TEMPLE 1

The SOUND OF DRUMS AND ANIMALISTIC CHANTS can be heard.
Firelight from enormous stone fixtures licks and dances against the
glistening rock walls. The camera moves in closer to reveal an alter
framed by twin bas relief likenesses of Sivar and the Tivah, the Kilrathi
Wargod and His first High Priestess. Upon this alter, under an ornate
Clan tapestry punctuated by a forged standard of Sivar and other
talismans, rest the stone tablets and scrolls of the Tome of Sivar. As we
move closer, we hear:

KILRATHI PRIESTESS (VO)
It has been written that during
the ancient rule of Emperor
Tng’Lmar, the revered
prophetess, Kt’lan, enlightened
by a vision of Sivar, entered
into His tome the 8th. Prophecy;
which reads...

Golden and red words are superimposed on the screen over a montage
of moving extreme close-ups of the Kilrathi glyphs and the tablets on the
alter. The VO continues..

KILRATHI PRIESTESS (VO)
"There shall come a time when
our faith will be tested. When
many will be misled by the
selfish motives of a ruling Clan.
The Great Warrior, who has
the heart of a Kilrathi, but is not
Kilrathi born comes to deliver
justice to the wicked. Our
people will be cleansed by the
fire that burns in the heart of
Kilrah herself and many will pay
the price for the few."
Following this revelation, Kt’Lan
refused all offerings of
food or drink from her accolytes
and ordered them to prepare
her K’Shrik-Non, or death den.
On the third day of her fasting,
before she was welcomed into
the busom of Sivar, Kt’lan
dictated her final words as the
9th Prophecy.
"As our hearts are consumed in
sacrifice, a sound of thunder
will herald the beginning of a
new age. Our Great Loss will
bring with it dark enemies of
our clan who will seek to feast
on our bones and will, like the
savage wind, spread to the four
corners of the sky and all that
is. But yet in this suffering, we
must be strong, for Sivar will
send another messenger who
shall bring redemption to our
race and fill us with the
Warriors Spirit and reunite us
as a people."

A shadow of a large Kilrathi warrior comes into view, eclipsing the scene.

KILRATHI PRIESTESS (VO)
For generations these words
were passed down from one
Warrior clan to the next; each
searching for meaning and
portents of the prophecies. But
over the centuries much
changed and many of the
Clans ultimately lost touch with
the wisdom of the past, in favor
of the bloodlust and conceit of
the future. The faithful took
refuge from this, while others,
drunk on their power, began to
question the old ways. Some
even said that Sivar never
really existed and that the
Kilrathi race was the ultimate
power in the universe. The
Empire had been standing for a
thousands years—and it always
would---

The Shadow faces upwards and lets out a loud cry. The sharp whine
of a ship passes over head and a huge explosion is heard in the distance.

Fade to White.

KILRATHI PRIESTESS (VO)
It began with the sound of
thunder.

Titles. Camera pulls out from a the white hot core of a blazing yellow
sun and drift through space. It plays against what appears to be surface
of rock, which is suddenly illuminated by a tractor beam and a cutting
laser. The Science Vessel Deveraux stops its work, as two smaller craft
with grabber arms enter frame and pick at the loose, exposed minerals.
Devearaux releases another Pod and it heads off...

DEVEREAUX COMM
Stand by B27-61. We have a
new contact that just showed
up on our scope.
MURDOCH
We see it, Deveraux.
Magnetics off the scale. Could
be the motherload we’ve been
looking for. We’ll check it out.

The small ship navigates through huge asteroids to reveal the shattered
remains of Kilrah.
Super: Kilrathi System. The SOUND OF A TRACKER can be heard.
They are getting closer.

MURDOCH
Getting closer. If this turns out to be trash again, Deveraux—

and closer...

DEVERAUX
Look at it this way, Murdoch. If
it is a rich vein, maybe we can
knock off early and all go
home.

And closer...

MURDOCH
Yeah, with a belly full of ore
and six months more
of research – Hold on, Deveraux,
coming into visual.

The little ship closes on a small shape adrift in space. It’s lights
illuminate it’s irregular surface.

MURDOCH
Aww, I knew it! Call off the
party, you guys. This ain’t no
rock.... But, readings say that
it’s dense as hell.
DEVEREAUX
Telemetry is kicking out
numbers here... Looks inert.
Can you bring it back for a
closer look?
MURDOCH
Great another trophy from the
Kilrathi War. Sure, Deveraux.

The little ship reaches for the shape. It suddenly springs to life and
hits the ship with a force blast that sends it reeling.

Insert CG sequence of Wormhole open, release of buoy and
Deveraux attack.

Transition:

Two Pirhana fighters come into view, flyby and land on midway.
