Just discovered a new mission

Just discovered a new mission in Standoff. This probably has already been discussed, but in case it hasn't... In the Prologue, in the mission where you're supposed to locate the pirate base, if you manage to defend the Lionheart, but then somehow fail the pathetically easy patrol mission (i.e. you head home before you get to Nav 3), then the next mission, Escort the Lionheart to the Attack Position" is much more long, involved, and, in my opinion, more fun. Plus the banter you get is awesome.

I just want to say thanks to the Standoff team for doing such a diligent job. I bet almost no-one finds this mission unless they're looking by intentionally failing--anyone good enough to stop the swarm of attackers when the Lionheart jumps in can handle the one bandit at Nav 1 and then find the base at Nav 3--but the fact that you actually put in such branching mission lines, and fleshed them out properly, puts you above most commercial game designers! Out of curisoity...that's the only "non-winning path mission" I've found in the Prologue...am I missing a way of creatively losing one of the other missions, or is that the only "hidden" mission? Is that the one that one of you was referring to in an earlier thread when you said that there is at least one mission in Ep 1 that no-one ever plays?

That's correct - if you get the Gladius version of mission 3, you also can fly this mission. Though, it's not automatic - if you still have more than 2 Stilettos, we assume they found the base.

As for the other non-winning missions... there is an alternative mission 2 which you can trigger by getting the Lionheart to the jump point in mission 1 (normally, you'd be interrupted halfway through the mission, but we needed to take into account that people can choose their navpoints and go straight to the end). This mission is just a shorter version of mission 2, starting with a scramble.

Then there's the alternative mission 3, which you can trigger either by playing the above mission, or by having only 2 Stilettos left after playing the normal version of mission 2.

Alternative mission 4 you already know about.

Then, there's alternative mission 5, which is most definitely the least impressive one of the whole lot, because the only difference is that everyone (both Gladiuses and Stilettos) flies on your wing - this happens if there's very few ships left, but still enough for the Lionheart to even try the mission.

And finally, if you choose the Gladius in mission 6 (which nobody ever does, so that's the mission we were referring to :p), the Sparrow chase takes you to the other side of the jump point. It's not any different, you still only have Sparrow to shoot at - but I love the lighting in mission 7, so I'd definitely recommend it ;).

Yep, me too. Don't ask me why, but somehow I got to like those scrawny little Gladiuses. :-P

Well, I took the Gladi (thouw only after taking the Sabre in the first try).

All this jumping around with the Gladi is much more fun! :)

Heh, I guess more people try the Gladius than I thought :p. It's funny, because I don't think I've seen anybody ever mention flying the jump mission - that's why I figured nobody played with the Gladius.

I'd play more often when someone releases the FAQ. I'm not going to lose missions on purpose at random, it's against the warrior code. :p

Come on, fan-base. There's a lot of territory to chart here.

Hehehe yeah it is really difficult to lose a mission on purpose, even though their are rewards for doing it (more missions!) it's just hard to bring oneself's to let comrades go down.

I picked gladius first, because the Sabre was a bomber... me and bombers aren't good friends, I need speed, quick shots, not slow, powerful shots (although the Rapier 2 had some great weapons.) :)

Nah, the Sabre is way faster and better, IIRC.

But would it have hurt the Confed Engineers who designed the Sabre to mount its guns, or at least some of them, a little closer to its centerline? :)

Gun convergence will be slightly improved for Ep 4.

(No miracles, Raptors will still suck).

No, me and Pierre tested some changes to the models, and we were also be able to slightly improve the Broadsword and Hornet (IIRC).
