Talk to Taryn Cross
- CROSS
- Did you complete the run, $CS?
- PLAYER
- Yeah...no thanks to the Kilrathi.
- CROSS
- Kilrathi? What were THEY doing there?
- PLAYER
- They were flying an inverted V, the usual formation for a broad sector sweep.
- CROSS
- But what could they be searching for, out here in the middle of nowhere?
- PLAYER
- You tell me. Why is the Confed interested in mapping this sector, anyway?
- CROSS
- I don't know. The top brass makes those decisions, I only implement them.
- If you're suggesting there's some kind of hidden agenda here...
- PLAYER
- All I'm saying is, if the Confed is out here looking for something...
- ...it makes sense that the Kilrathi would share their interest.
- Anyway, they're the ones who've been trashing your ships all along.
- CROSS
- Makes sense...I guess.
- Up for another mapping run? It pays the usual 10,000 credits...

- CROSS
- Damn it, am I expecting too much...
- ...asking you to complete your mission in a timely manner?
- I can see it in your eyes. You haven't flown it yet, have you?
- PLAYER
- Quit nosing around in my eyes, Taryn.
- I promise, your mission is now on top of my list of things to do.
- CROSS
- Yeah? Then get to it! I want to see Delta Prime charted in my lifetime!
- Maneuver through Gamma to the jump point located there...
- ...jump to Delta Prime and hit the nav point we've programmed into your computer.
- Just one more mapping run, and we've completed our chart of the sector.
- Just fly your programmed course, and return when you're finished.
- PLAYER
- You don't have to remind me.
- I'm negligent... not stupid...

- I'm considering rethinking my decision.
- CROSS
- Talk about fear of commitment...
- Look. You need to fly through Gamma to the jump point there...
- ...jump to Delta Prime and hit the nav point we've programmed into your computer.
- Afterwards, report back here for your payment of 10,000 credits.

- Look, you don't have to tell me. I know I screwed up.
- CROSS
- Yeah, you did. It hurts me to say this, because I like you...
- ...but I'm afraid you're fired.
- We need results, $CS. And I don't want to sit around this god-forsaken sector forever.
- PLAYER
- Hey, I'll try harder, I'll work faster...
- CROSS
- Sorry, $NM...you had your chance and you blew it.
- I wish you luck. Good-bye.

- CROSS
- Well? How did it go?
- PLAYER
- Pulled it off, naturally. What else did you expect?
- No offense intended.
- CROSS
- I suppose you want to be paid for pushing back the frontier for all mankind?
- PLAYER
- Not to be crass...but yeah.
- CROSS
- Here it is. Last payday. Don't drink it all at once.
- PLAYER
- Yeah...well, I guess that wraps up my stint in the ES.
- Taryn, it's been fun.
- CROSS
- Too much fun can kill you, $NM.
- PLAYER
- Yeah...that's why I'm heading out before it becomes a joy. Take care.
- CROSS
- You too.

TARYN CROSS - MISSION D
Summary | Your final rim with the E.S. is to Delta Prime. It seems simple until you get there and discover a derelict ship, neither Human not Kilrathi in ori-gin. Landing on it you find that it may be possible to acquire a little sal-vage for yourself. This is the treasure on the Steltek map — X marks this spot. When you return to Taryn, you somehow avoid mentioning that you were able to affix an alien weapon to your own gun slots. |
Payment | 10,000 credits. |
Requirements | Jump into Delta Prime, acquire the gun off the Steltek fighter. |
Opponents | No mission-specific enemies exist, although them are still Kilrathi in Gamma to avoid. Possession of the Steltek gun allows the Steltek Drone to find you. it follows in your wake, destroying all it encounters. Should you meet the Drone, run. It will be impervious to your shots. |
- You just need to map the sector and pick up the Stehek gun. Just communicate and talk your way out of the random encounters and then get to the derelict. – "Balzac"
- Cheat: Once you land and put the Steltek gun onto your ship, take off and bring up the Options Screen. Put on INVULNERABILITY and fly back to base unharmed. Be sure to turn it off once you speak to Taryn. – "Havoc"

Description
Inside Delta there is a jump point to a new system designated Beta. Again you need to travel there, and patrol the area. Cross asks you to look out for a pilot named Captain Garrovick she sent there before who never returned.
Objectives
Travel to Delta Prime system and land on derelict base then return to Rygannon.
Scripted Encounters
None
Notes
- Once you reach Delta Prime, you'll find a derelict base. Land there, and you'll find a wrecked fighter. Upon examining it closely, you'll find that it has a weapon attached which you can take and attach to your own ship. Your very own Steltek gun! Your ship will be refueled, and you can start the run back to Rygannon.
- On the way, a big green egg will attack you. Since you can't destroy it, your only hope is to run and dodge its fire.
- And so your Exploratory Services days are over. But what now? You don't know what to do next, and to make matters worse, you have the big green egg after you. Find a mining base other than Rygannon and talk to Sandra Goodin.

Mission : Mission 4
Comments : You may want to sell one of your forward guns before starting this mission to make room for the Steltek gun. Else, you could lose a gun without compensation. Also, the mining base at Tingerhoff is a convinient place to land to find Captain Goodin.

Mission : Rygannon (last)
Comments : If you have a Centurion, make sure you put the gun on one of the inner mounts. There's nothing more irritating than the final showdown with the egg and having to hit it with the far left or far right weapon

Comments : Wedge: Mining base at Tingerhoff? THERE IS NO MINING BASE THERE! The closest one is Macabee in Nexus. BTW, I think I remember I have written this before. Is someone deleting my posts here? That's a shame, I'm just correcting all the wrong things in Wedge's posts (that's a lot to correct, I might add).
