Asteroids
The Terran Knowledge Bank
Asteroids are small, rocky planetoids which orbit many star systems and can present a hazard to navigation. Asteroid fields have a wide range of densities and their component asteroids vary greatly in mass and velocity.
It is common for pilots of small craft to fly a direct route through thick fields of asteroids in order to reach their destination quickly, to avoid encounters with enemies and to catch their opponents by surprise. Crews of larger vessels are generally unable to traverse these fields and are commonly forced to go around them.
