Wing Commander: The Movie?

Wow, why would those be cheaper? They are quite a bit more complicated in design than the original ones. Those just happen to be how they were designed.

Well I don't know TC...
Maybe the whole shooting would have been harder with fighters with a larger wing foilage... especially for spin, yaw, roll scenes...

Perhaps it was cheaper to put the Neutron (chain)gun in the center of the ship than put two different guns on the wings...

You see, to me the whole thing was just a lack of money problem...

The design of the ships really wasn't a money problem. That is just how they were designed for the movie.

Mmmmh... how can you be so sure?

I mean look at the surroundings in the Tiger's Claw!!! It almost looked as if they were made of cardboard!!
It seems pretty obvious to me that that was due to a budget problem TC...

After some time the movie did start to have problems with money, things get to be diferent that they wanted to be(the Kilrathis for example).

Yeah, well... you're kind of very wrong.

What reasoning are you using to come up with this idea that it had to have been a budget issue? Do you have any reason to believe this? It's clear through all the things we've heard from Roberts and DA that he made things look the way he wanted them to look, not because of any other reasons.

TC

Exactly! Thanx for reminding me that Dragon!! Look at the furless furballs!! They're ugly!!

Hey some of you might say that the Kilrathis from the games aren't necessarily pretty either, but what the hell are we supposed to do with the combat taunts "furball" and "cat"??

'Cause I mean, in the movie, the Kilrathi look more like bad-tempered Siamese kitties than bloodthirsty alien cats...

Well in that case TC, permit me to say that between WC IV and Wing Commander: the Movie, Chris Roberts simply forgot how to shoot movie scenes...mmmh? :(

Since I have faith in the man, who brought to us this wonderful universe, I just blame the budget...

Somehow, I don't think that changing the way a computer model looks would affect the costs of rendering a computer animation one way or another :).

Hi,

Part of the reason the rapiers looked like they did in the movie is because they went looking for full sized cockpits first.

I heard that they managed to get six British Lightning cockpits on the cheap, and that the shape of the cockpit influenced the shape of the CGI model

BUDGET, BUDGET, BUDGET!! What did I tell you?

Phew! :) At least I know now that Chris Roberts is still a genius... lol

Partially correct -- the original sketches for the Rapier look *sort* of like the final -- but the existing cockpit of the Lightning made them change the look (particularly of the canopy) a bit.

Hmmm, WWII in space and all that, right?

And about those 'contradictions'... it's all very well and good if you've got all the background info and all that, but to a WC gamer who sees the movie (like myself) wouldn't know about all the little behind-the-scenes explanations unless they can find the novels, or they come here to the CZ or both.

Actually the Lighting is (better was) a Brittish fighter Intercepter of the 60s.
It could achive Mach 2, if not mistaken.

Lockheed P-38 Lightning Fighter

Powered by two liquid-cooled engines, the P-38 had a top speed of 414 miles per hour and carried a 20-mm cannon and four machine guns in its nose. Designed as a high altitude interceptor, the P-38 shot down more Japanese planes during World War II than any other U.S. fighter"

So much for "Mach 2" Dragon... LOL :p
