hi, i'd appreciate any help you could offer me. I have wing commander 1 working well on XP but the music doesn't work which was so good when i was young! If there is a way of downloading the music files and making them play at the right times in the game, please could you help me? thanks in advance
 
Yes there is... Buy it.

Crappy pirated versions of the kilrathi saga version often have the music stripped out.
 
Probably your best bet would be to check with EBay, or some similar website.

Also... You said you played Wing Commander before, correct? Do you legally own a copy of the DOS version of WC I?

If so, you might want to look into downloading DOSBox to get the Dos version up and running again. It's fairly simple once you figure out how to work DOSBox, and I've always found that the game runs like they did originally. I’ve heard that getting the original games to run on DOSBox can actually be easier than getting the Kilrathi Saga versions to run under XP.
 
yep got the very original game when it was first released but ive lost the blueprints to answer the login question :(
 
DOSBox does take some time to get used to, but it's well worth it in the end. Try to keep in mind that it's not actually DOS... It's a program that basically tricks your old programs into thinking it's DOS. Therefore, you need to tell DOSBox which drives you want it to recognize as your CD-ROM, your floppy drive, your hard drive, etc.

If you go to https://www.wcnews.com/techsupport.shtml and follow the instructions posted there, you should be able to get WC I up and running. What, exactly, seems to be going wrong for you?

By the way... If you go to https://www.wcnews.com/manuals.shtml, the blueprints for WC I should be posted there.
