I think I'm going to have the Firekkans (At least for the most part) come into the picture later in the 2nd part of the series. Based on the fact that they really want noone in there system at all...period.

I think if you make that you a freelancer/mercenary that there should be some kind of upgrade system. Cause as a freelancer/mercenary you get paid for doing a job and you use that money to make your ships better to do more jobs. But to do something like that on secret ops and not get too difficult in programming I think you should do what they did in unknown enemy were in some missions you could pick your fighter but in this cause it would be you paying and upgraded ship but could also be just using another ship to play with. But I don’t think you can call yourself freelancers/mercenaries if you don’t get things that other cant or wont use. But as for story I think that with the firekkens all mission would have to have at least one squad around as they would want to keep an eye on anyone in there system. The part about working for the kilrathi is a coin flip cause some may ask or except help from outsiders they could say they don’t need it thinking it will make them look weak. But the idea of selecting which ship you can use in a mission would be a nice add on to the mod.

I was thinking something along thes lines of "The Revenge" The whole destroyer and the wing on it, Are all mercenaries basically on the same types of missions. With a hierachy of some type of unspoken rank. There is a captain of the ship. Who basically is in charge. Of where you're going, Who your going to help or not help, etc. I guess they can almost be looked at as Pirates. But in many ways have certain loyalties to Confed.

A Mercenary is basically just a Hired force by a Military/Gov't Entity of some sort to gain money for private advancement, to help them fight in there cause (Whatever it may be) And normally get paid much more than what the same type of rank or duty would call for.

So I'm not understanding how they couldn't be Mercenaries. It's not like they haul cargo all over. Then they would just be some type of Merchant Vessel.

Another reason why I am calling them mercenaries is that Confed Hires them at one point to help them in the cause against the Nephilim.

jason, have you thought on making your campaign rather cheerful ( confed has the upper hand) or dark (like prophecy, where the shit really was burning) ?

I was just thinking that as a hired gun you can do things differently then they would like putting things on a fighter that would be on it normally like some weapons that no one has. Something they say is still on the drawing board like an energy gatling gun or a detachable missile pods the disconnect when your out of missile and your ships speed is increased without them. It’s the whole point of being a hired gun cause you do things differently then the others or outside the box of the regulations the military works under. I would like to see a pulse particle cannon gatling gun strapped on the noise of a fast fighter would make it a dangers fighter?

Here's some new shots of the "Revenge" , Redid alot of the textures. Tell me what you think? It doesn't have any turrets on it at the moment (Except the Large Plasma Batteries to the sides).

Now this looks like some kind of Merc Ship right?

That looks cool and something you’ll think twice before attacking also those yellow boxes look like that could be some kind of external coolant system for those plasma cannons so they can fire fastest then normal.

Originally I wanted those yellow boxes to be nothing more than something aesthetic but after building the model for sometime I thought. Maybe they could be some kind of small shielded power plants for each individual Plasma gun. So I tried to make them look like they had some type of exhaust ports.

The model itself started out as nothing but a Southhampton class Destroyer. But after adding a hanger, some newer engines, a few details. I tried to make it look like some type of Converted Destroyer. I got this idea after watching a program on History channel about Different types of Converted Destroyers during WW2. Some were designated into Fast Troop Transports or minesweepers. Basically whatever they needed to be. The Allies during WW2 converted them.

So It was just a thought, but at least a plausible one for the storyline. When Confed mothballed alot of the fleet ships, in light of the newer megacarriers "Midway Class" etc... It might have seemed plausible that a few of the older ships especially the smaller ones (Destroyers, Corvettes, Cargo ships, even smaller cruisers). Went on the black market of some type. And with the advent of the Nephilim Virus and the second Nephilim incursion. It's rather plausable that perhaps confed needed the credits by then. Instead of totally scrapping old ships, the extremely old ones just got sold off. To make way for newer/larger ship classes "Indomitable".

Yes that idea is plausible but also if you remember in the Gulf War the battleship Missouri was reinstated and updated to fight so if you don’t have enough confed ships to work with you could do that in a backwater system or a convoy escort duty. And I think the idea behind the conversion of existing ship into other duties was that it was cheaper to take an already made ship and just take away or add the need things to fill in the empty gap in the war machine. Also to make those yellow boxes have that affect the fire rate on the plasma cannons would have to be fast then they are on another ship

I can't exactly change the re-fire rate on the gun and NOT have it effect the other ones. For me to do that I would have to erase one of the guns in the mod and to be honest I'm actually done editing the gun files in the mod. There's way too many to begin with. And it would be counter productive. I may change the look of the Capship Plasma guns to be animated, but that's about it.

Confed isn't exactly a steaplechase in the mod... Yea I mean you'll see them The Midway class of ships, The Indomitable class, Nice looking ships, etc. But they're not exactly the main focus of the mod.

I was thinking of an idea, earlier today while working on some of the storyline. Do you think it may be a semi decent idea. That maybe there is a rival Mercenary Force similar to the "Revenge"? And maybe Confed would hire the Revenge to go head to head with this force? Maybe put in a few missions trying to look for this other ship/force ? Just lookin for some ideas as I'm pushing forward here. Let me know what you guys/gals think.

For that to work there has to be a really good reasons for it something like they’re attacking a friend or affecting a battle plan. Like attacking the nephilim and there fortifying there positions in the area. But if its just for revenge or something like that it wouldn’t work well in a story unless it’s a side story.

I would not put a secon rival revenge in the game, there is way enough more surprising storys to tell by focusing on kilrathi cultists, pirates and nephs

Very True...Ehh, it was just a quick idea...Thought I might get some bites. But eh it would be a rather fruitless effort given the rest of the story and all

Here's a lil bit of the new Tallahassee Cruiser. There's no armament shown on it, But it should have something similar to WC3 specs (With perhaps an extra turret or two). The plots been worked out there's just a few minor details here and there. But what is really taking me the longest on this project so far is making the models and actually implementing them into the game engine. After that it's pretty much on to mission design.

she looks great but i always thought it should have more guns on it there are big gaps were there could put a turret or two and they dont is there a reason for that?

well even the textures are based on the originals for where the turrets were placed. I think there's maybe like 12 Turrets? somethin like that.... I mean it's not like I can't change what types of turrets they are. So instead of 12 Laser Turrets maybe I'll mix it up and put a few of the Tachyon Turrets on it, so a number like 6 Laser and 6 Tach.
