The Flying Tigers: A Wing Commander RPG

Can i command the VF-1 "Wolfpack" Squadron?
I also would like to be the SIM XO. I play RPGs since 4 years ago, SIMs since 3 years ago, mostly Star Trek, but from other stuff too. I have some knowledge of WCII Timeline(Especially the losing path :P).

History:
Captain William James Bradley's career was mostly tempestuous. He was born of a Confederate Senator and owner of BradTech, Patrick Bradley, and an executive, Anne Bradley Smith(Both died at Battle of Terra, 4 years later than the RPG Timeline). He studied in good schools, and from youth showed tactic and piloting skills. He got his spot at academy in a test in the simulator, where he managed to gather the squadron of candidates, leading them, and surviving against two hotshots in a Broadsword, that, while damaged, was still operational.

He was a good student in Academy, especially in History and Tactics, being the best student of his class in the last. His skills were beginning to be channeled. He graded as seventh of his class, and was assigned to the TCS Nebuchedenezzar, one of the oldest Gilgamesh-class ships. He was firstly shot down when trying to cover the escape of three Broadsword bombers of a trio of Jalthi using a Rapier. When they were going to finish the poor pilot, the reinforcements arrived. That gallantry act granted him the Golden Sun and the Bronze Star.

In 2656, the ship was attacked by a massive Kilrathi force when escorting a convoy. William was the acting commander of their Raptor squadron, and succefully managed to get the convoy to escape, with the loss of the
Nebuchedenezzar. They were later rescued. After this action, he was granted a D.S.C. and promoted to First Lieutenant. In his service at the Nebuchedenezzar, he scored 32 kills, one of them Fralthi and other two, Ralari.

He was granted a position of Squadron Executive Officer at the Austerlitz's Raptor Squadron. With gallant actions, he has been awarded his second Bronze Star and a Silver Star.

But the noblest point of his career was still to come. In 2658.364, the Austerlitz was attacked by a fleet of Kilrathi marauders that was stalking the sector, having destroyed eleven convoys with their escorts, and nearly nailed a carrier. The Austerlitz was given the chance of retracting, but as acting ship commander(The CO, XO and Wing Commander were nailed before, and his commander was on leave before this mission), he refused and waited for the reinforcements. Passing the command for a Fleet Lieutenant, he has took off and coordinated the action. They fought for three days until the reinforcements arrived. When they did, the Austerlitz Flight Group was responsible by more than 140 fighter kills and the destruction of three Fralthi(one by Will), eight Ralari(four by Will), and ten Snakeir(three by Will). But the losses were high. From 80 pilots of all escorts of their convoy, only five pilots survived.

William Bradley was them promoted to Captain and granted a Spec Ops assignment in Trk'pahn Sector, being promoted to Major. The TCS Doolittle killed many capital ships, until the day when their captain ordered them to destroy a city. There were no military facilities there, and William refused the assignment. They began a mutiny for getting to somewhere new. He refused to get in the mutiny and was transported until one jump from Maginot, and given a Sabre fighter. The ship was later captured and the mutineers arrested.

Will's Sabre was attacked and shot down. He stayed nearly an year as a slave, until the planet was attacked by Confed and the POWs released.

He was thought to have leaded the mutiny, and was judged by JAG. He was condemned to 1 year prision, to be demoted to Second Lieutenant, lose all his medals and be Dishonorably discharged after a year of service. However, when his lawyers were appealing, some of the mutineers told the right version, and his sentence was lessened. His rank was restituted, and his Gold Star and DSC were given back to him. The other medals were removed, but even then, he was given a squadron commander position at the Alliance, as, at the rate they were losing pilots, they could not waste Captain Bradley for much. His heavy fighter experience gave him the commannd of VF-1 "Wolfpack" Squadron.

Great... as awkwardly soap-opera-ish as this could be, my (real-life) great-grandfather was William Bradley. Not sure about the middle name, though. Just coincidence, I'm sure.

SIX Snakier? That may be possible in game terms, but if you want to have any pretense of realism then that's at least a tenth of all the Snakiers the Kilrathi have. I'd cut it to two Snakier kills unless you want to say that he's as good as Blair.

TCS Nebuchedenezzar, McAuliffe System, Pilot, Acting Squadron Commander(2656), 2653-2656

Should be "Nebuchadnezzar".

VF-1 "Wolfpack" Squadron

Confed uses Air Force-style designations for their squadrons - '36th FW', '101st FS' and whatnot.

The Landreich uses the Navy 'VF' designations.

Ok, thanks for the tips. I will change the things pointed by ljunin and LOAF.

I didn't wanted to mean that he was the supreme kick-ass guy, just a good pilot. There is any light class of capships that could do the role of those snakeir in the kill count?

And the squadorn's name was given by Sylvester, not me :P

Here's my character; I tried to keep the history based more on his background and character. He's no superhero, just a pilot with some screws loose. LOAF: Let me know if some Confed systems had a home guard, and if so if it was called "Home Guard".

History:
Whelan Fox Howe was born in the Cambria system under a dark astrological
sign: Hell's Kitchen. His parents were subsistence farmers, but his father
secretly made and sold Boom-Boom for a local mob boss. Whelan's father was
never known for intelligence; after a failed attempt to smuggle some of his
Boom-Boom outsystem to a wealthier buyer, the mob boss had him, and his family,
brought in. Whelan was taken from his mother before his parents were shot to
death. Not wanting the child himself, the mob boss gave the baby to an
relatively kind old man, Kinson Lowel, who had been loyal to the mob all his
life.

Whelan was raised as Thome Lowall. The original Thome Lowall was Kinson's
grandson and had died with his daughter in an accident in Enyo just one month
prior. Whelan grew up in hard times; while the war was not being fought in
Cambria, it was close enough to the danger. Most of Cambria's youth were off
fighting the Kilrathi, and the system had its fair share of lost loved ones. In
this environment it was easy for the boy to grow up troubled. In school he did
well, but seldom spoke with anyone else. Those that tried to get close to him
were pushed away. As a teenager he became interested in the occult and met
several youth with similar interests. He joined the Locust Curse, a cult that
followed the teachings of the Dark Priest Jasnul Krin.

Once Kinson learned of Whelan's dark interests he became both furious and
woeful; his heart couldn't take the dispair. In his last words to Whelan he
spoke of his true identity. The young man took all of it in with disbelief and
anger. He retrieved Kinson's pistol and hunted down the old mob boss, who had
been a "family friend" to him since he was young. With mob blood on his hands,
he knew he couldn't stay on the planet. He buried Kinson, collected his meager
credits and caught a shuttle to Pephedro to start anew.

Whelan's darker side appealed to him to join the military, where sending the
living to the other side was a daily job. He went through OCS and pilot training
in 2658; soon he was flying heavy fighters in the Pephedro Home Guard. While he
was an exemplary pilot against pirates, Pephedro was too placid for him, and he
requested transfers every moment he could. He was answered with a promotion and
an assignment to the TCS Kirsk. In 2663 he skillfully flew a Raptor in a botched
surprise attack on a Kilrathi Starbase in Hell's Kitchen. His wingmen claimed
that during the battle Whelan repeatedly whispered a chant over the comms. That
day he killed several Kilrathi and was awarded a Silver Star.

After the attack Whelan was transferred to the TCS Saratoga on the front
lines. His first several sorties won him the nickname "Satan's CapKiller",
given his new reputation against Kilrathi capital ships. This tour was shortlived,
as an unexpected transfer order arrived months after he first set foot on
deck...

"The Matrix has you, 'POW'".

But seriously - even for an 11-12 year career at this point... that's quite a lot of Snakier kills, and overall that's a lot of kills in general - 90 fighter kills puts him probably above some of the Claw's people, who were arguably some of the best pilots in space, and who were stuck behind enemy lines for extended periods. Also, the mutiny part's very derivative of the SO1 plot, which isn't a good thing - even with the strong information controls Confed had, word of a mutiny would've spread through ConFleet the way the Mandarin actions did. Just one mutiny was bad enough, with Gettysburg - a second one would probably be unheard of, even if the captain was acting just like the Gettysburg's commander.

Wasn't it a mutiny when Max/Hans Kruger took the TCS Blitzkrieg? Or more of a defection?

It was more a hijacking - Kruger was never a member of the ship's crew, and the Landreich personnel took the ship and kicked the Confed people off.

(Edited as LOAF corrected yet another mistake)

The reasons of the mutiny were unknown, and it has been silented itself. It is not known by more than 20 persons(most of the crew died), so, they had a fake assignment and a fake charge againt him.

Well, if you see him, tell him his squadron designation is flawed, however historically cutesey. :)

Snakeirs are one of the empire's premiere carriers. The entire complement of the TCS Concordia (CVS-65) destroyed *eight* such carriers in nine years of fighting. Stick to Ralari destroyers (which should still be a rare kill, though they exist in much larger numbers than carriers...) or Kamekh corvettes.

In other words, they charged him with something OTHER than mutiny, and put him on another ship for the charges? Was he charged with Treason perhaps, or just Deriliction of Duty? It's starting to sound like Blair... and I doubt that anyone else save Blair, who led a charmed life in such matters, would've gotten away with a promotion after either one of those charges. Anything that requires a court martial of some sort, or charges like this in general, would probably torpedo a career even in Wartime - well, especially in wartime.

Edit: Yes, I know Blair and Bondarevsky got away with it. They do tend to be more the exception than the rule, especially as Bondarevsky did have some patronage as well, in the form of Admiral Tolwyn.

No. They charged him with something else. But William's lawyers managed to get some of the head guys of the mutiny to proof he was against the mutiny. He was then given a partial pardon, and assigned to the Alliance as his probation, as he was still found guilty of Disobeying Orders and of Stealing of a Confed fighter(as he was not in mission). That's why he lost most of his medals and hadn't his full rank restablished. And the Alliance was the only place where he could go, as he knew the captain and somewhere else he would be rejected.

You're meeting a lot of gruff for your character, Slawter. To be honest... he's not original. He's Blair. He's Superman. And I really hope the (*cough*Squall*cough*) thing was used purely to describe his scar and not as a fanboyish reference to what kind of character William Bradley is going to be.

Please reconsider a few of the points in your character's profile. Keep in mind that:

A look at the statistics of air-to-air credits during World Wars I and II reveals that a very small number of pilots accounted for a significant number of the total victories.
We already have Blair, Maniac and the pilots on board the carriers they served upon. Let's represent the millions of other, non-godlike Confed pilots. It's more fun that way. Don't get me wrong, dude, I like your character otherwise. Definitely keep the name...

If I wanted to make a character for this RPG, he'd be a 2nd lt, with no medals and about 15 kills, if that many. If I want to be blair, I can go play WC games =) But hey, this is you game, people, I have no right to nanoy you!

I just found this site, and was wondering if this RPG you all have been talking about is still running.

If it is, I would like to join as a Rapier or Raptor pilot, if that is possible.
