Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without pumpkin pie.

Yup, Baker's Square pie kicks ass, especially Caramel Pecan Silk Supreme! Pitty though that they had to take over all the old Sambo's restaurants from my youth.

I love pumpkin pie, but find that the bought ones vary widely, and for the most part are blandly disgusting. For one, it has to be eaten cold (refridgerator cold) and the spice mixture tends to be slightly different with each maker.

On a similar note, a family friend brought a pumpkin pie over to a gathering at my grandparents house. She served it and everyone wondered why it tasted so bad... really strange tasting actually. Then she laughs about how she had made the silly mistake of confusing the powdered ginger with powdered garlic!

she KNEW it was garlic, and she served it ANYWAY! I guess she had had lots of kids and grew up in an era where you wasted nothing.

AD,
I am gagging just thinking about that!!! It actually reminds me of a few people I know. My general rule of thumb: if you have mixed up the recipe, don't punish other people for your mistake! :)

I'm tellin' ya, if you haven't had a good buttercup squash pie, you haven't lived. . .

Buttercup squash is a smallish, green squash with bright orange flesh. Very tasty when baked with a little butter/brown sugar on top, though you don't really need either. What can I say, I was raised on it.

Just subsitute it for pumpkin in a pie. It will taste better. Probably pumpkin pie would taste better too if you didn't use canned pumpkin, though.

Pecan pie is really, really, really, good. Pumpkin/squash pie with pecans on top is even better.

Nice to see you around Hal, as you can see I took up being your salesman because I figured word needed to get out. Pumpkin Pie should always be made with naturual pumpkin if you can, and aren't super lazy. The canned mixes have always turned out bad and bitter for me.

Sweet pumpkin pie is ok with cool whip. Im not talking about the spice pie stuff. No nutmeg or whatever else some people put in it.

Question: why is it called impossible pumpkin pie anyway?

Sidenote: pecan pie... yum

I'm really surprised that no one's talked about the math kind of pie yet...
