Darn 3 posts in a row. Forgot to mention I'm having problems with my Saitek joystick and my Logitech. Both are USB. Both are 3 axle w/throttle. I set the settings accordingly. Is this a known issue?

I played Privateer for countless hours when it came out around 15 years ago, and I have gone through a few computers since, each one taking all the time necessary to make it run on that system. Finally, I can't make it run anymore, not even dosbox does a decent job with it, and I rely on this project to bring Privateer back to me!! =P If you keep updating and listening to feedback, I'll keep testing!! =D

Funny... I run privateer flawlessly in dosbox under xp. If you wish, post a note in the tech support forum with your specs and exactly how it won't work and we'll see what we can do.

That said, all your feedback is exactly what's needed for the gemini gold team to improve future releases. But don't forget that if you forget to add something to a post, you still have 2 hours to edit the post and add whatever you want.

In some cases - like replying specifically to different people about differing topics within a thread - I wouldn't worry about the multiple posts in a row.

Great version, I am having a few minor problems. I cannot name a save file other than the automatic save "Castor Romulus Tarsus 01" etc. Also "h" or "H" does not work for finding hostiles. Fortunately when I picked up a color radar I could see the red guys and "L" lock onto them. I have played Privateer since it came out in '93 and really like what you all have done with this game.

Thanks AD! I'll find that thread and post my settings there. I've tried a lot though! ;)

I had a couple other issues today with GG.

First, I got weird autopilot issues after 'escorting' a vessel. After I followed it to its destination, the autopilot would collide me with either the ship, or the second time around, the planet. The planet collision was the most bizarre. I actually crash LANDED! I crashed and then found myself at the dock, then discovered I had completed the mission. I then undocked only to find my ship was 'dead.' I restarted and this time the game decided the mission was never completed and so it let me do it again. I had no problem the third time.

I noticed also that the ships are too prone to collision damage as compared to the original game. I'm flying a mission my 5th time in a row now, not because I can't handle the fight, but because centurions keep flying right into me! And not at thruster speed either. Just normal speed, with me having full shield. That should just go 'bump' and make a tiny dent in the shields.

Also how are factions handled? After my run in with Kroiz, I've been 100% hostile with bounty hunters. Now I'm working with them (Palan missions) and even those that should be friendly with me aren't! No biggie I just kill em all!! haha

I'll continue to play through the game and inform you of anything that stands out as odd =)

I'm having a problem with sound. In the setup program, I select Sound and Music, but I only get some sounds, and am missing the music and a lot of communication sounds. When I select Music only, I am able to hear the music.

I can't get it to run on my laptop.. it'll start loading and then it CTD's before I get to see the menu screen...

of course my laptop is not exactly high quality gaming hardware.

1.3ghz celeron, 1gig ddr2 ram, integrated 64mb graphic card.

Having a new problem.

My mouse goes dead on me!

It's only when I've been playing the game.

UPDATE

The mouse thing is fixed by unplugging my mouse and then waiting 10 seconds and plugging it back in. IDK why it happens though. Seems to be especially when leave the game paused for an extended time period.

Finished the pre-RF portion of the plot. Invincible drones still follow me after I blew 'it' up. Also I had 250k or so saved up. After I got paid for the last mission of the original plot I went down to 90k and change. Weird thing happened when I went to Nitir on that mission too. I got in system and it jumped me automatically to the ambush point in Blockade Point Tango, Nav 1. Anyway that's not a major issue.

Starting RF plot now. I'll look for further oddities.

Still, I'm confused. When I bought the turret for my Centurion, it stuck it in the back. When I went to mount guns to it and a tractor beam, it said no slots available. I said ok must be a bug not worked out yet. Then I went in space and checked it out. It fired mesons.

A turret comes WITH a pair of guns pre-installed. IIRC you get to choose the type of gun at the moment where you buy the turret (or did they take that out of this version?). The turret also has a tractor beam pre-installed, but you need to go into the turret and switch the tractor on--I forget if this is the g key or the w key. You can then fire the tractor beam from within the turret view--but not from, within the main cockpit, and it will fire in the direction that your turret is facing.

need more information. That's plenty enough machine for this game engine. At what point is it CTD during loadup? Anything else you can tell us?

Yeah it's not true to the original. I was pointing that out. I get they come preinstalled. I just don't think it's a good idea. Thanks though.

all it does is resize my monitor to 800x600, go black for a second and then suddenly my monitor goes back to 1280x768 and there is no more sign of the privateer exe
in task manager

I never actually get to see a single graphic.

"Yeah it's not true to the original. I was pointing that out. I get they come preinstalled. I just don't think it's a good idea. Thanks though."
It's as true to the original as the vegastrike engine currently allows us to do it.

"I never actually get to see a single graphic."
Try to update your graphic card drivers.

"something better than to quit the program using the task manager. i don't consider that for comfortable."
Just start into space and quit there, that is the only possibility right now.

Note: The RC version is no longer available through the links posted above.

I agree on the repair prices. Too high in some cases. Also losing an item altogether when it's destroyed is a bad idea. I've gone through 3 afterburners so far. In the original it could get blown up altogether and still get repaired for considerably less than buying it all over again. Maybe it makes sense to do it this way but I prefer sticking to the original. Seems as though the equipment gets damaged before enough of the armor is gone. I know it should take some damage before the armor is gone, but the ship equipment is too vulnerable I'm noticing.

In the original Privateer, systems went from severe damage to being completely destroyed. Then you had to rebuy instead of repair something, and this could occur with a good deal of armor left depending on where and what gets hit. It sounds like Gemini Gold works like it should.

Yeah I vaguely remember you having to rebuy things. Either way, stuff is getting damaged too easily. Here's a typical situation in the original:

Head on with an Orion throwing mass drivers in your face. Your shields go down and you take some major damage to your armor. One lucky hit with your armor damaged in the front and your targeting computer goes haywire.

Here's a typical situation on GG:

Talon sweeps by, manages to get your shields down and scrapes your armor, damaging your repair bot, or some other random piece of equipment. I've even had my afterburned totally destroyed without so much as a nick in my armor. Kind of weird if you ask me. Just something that might deserve looking into and fine tuning. Game still feels a lot like the original though, except without the horribly choppy flight and with excellent keyboard control.

John:
I understand the turrets are the best solution you guys have right now. It's all good work! :-D

The more I play the more I notice the little details that really make this remake shine.
Like for instance the ships we see outside the refinery dome don't just fly by, they actually maneuver by- you can see the tilt of the talon changing- cool stuff

I'm more into the merchant side of things at the moment and I'd like to know if there's a shortcut I can use while I'm at the commodity exange screen. In the original game if I right clicked on the item on screen I could purchase all of the available amount instantly... the way the right clicking works now is that it jump the cursor from one button to the other...
I got a tarsus with cargo expansion and 150+ click of the mouse eatch time I whant to unload and then another 150+ to purchase... I'm getting a sore clicking finger.
