Well, this is my 3rd attempt at modelling, and its the destroyer. Again i used a reference picture and memory, so there are probably quite a few errors...

That's pretty nice - a bit flat, but pretty good. You should probably look into consolidating some of those polys - you can do that in MAX either by using the Optimise tool or selecting and deleting edges. It could also use more detail - you could probably do that and still stay well under the poly count of even older games like Secret Ops and pre-SCP Freespace 2.

What do you mean by more detail? Like, where abouts? I would play through WC3/WC4 again to get a better idea, but niether of them are working these days.
