Misc Artwork for the Flight Demo

Just wanted to pop in and say that i am looking forward to the completion of this game, it looks awsome!

Hurleybird: Whateva. The guns won't change - they're really a bit of a minor detail.

Having the gun graphics change to reflect which guns you are mounting isn't really a necessary detail, but I would like it if the MFD highlighted the guns that were currently selected.

Also, are we going to see the usual green/yellow/red quadrants for armor/hull damage?

Let's see if I am properly reading this: In the first post, you have Bandit, Camel, Phalanx, Scimitar, Tarsus, and in the second post you have Dralthi, Salthi, Hydra, Hunchback, and the last one is Corsair? I think that still leaves at least Hornet, Raptor, Krant, and Grathra, plus the capships. Break a leg! ^_^

Oh, no - My misunderstanding. These are the targeting MFDs. The guns on these won't change (nor would I expect them to), but I've already got the Gun/Weapons MFD for your ship(s) done. It will have different weapons displayed based on what you have mounted. It will act exactly like the privateer weapon/gun control. I've attached a screen of what I mean.
Also, I have done damaged versions of all these MFD displays - although only red ones. The original WC only had green or red for the hull damage states. I don't recall ecactly what privateer did, but I believe it was the same thing. I'll have to check.
I've done the Hornet, and Wildcat, along with most of the other Kilrathi fighters (I don't believe the Gratha was around in 2651) and most of the capships are still being worked on. What I could do is a station graphic - although goibng through all the possible perumutations of the stations could be....interesting.

a word to the wise about the guns/weapons MFD: ordnance feels good but guns... all look the same. they need either a reshape to more distinguishable look or a bit of creative pixel pushing. I can do that, just need to know all the dimensions of the final sprites. I suppose they're gonna be derived from chosen screen resolution?
by the way, in WC1 the MFD guns look different because the shapes are not all solid; there are dividers and hollow bits. hope this helps.
and finally... don't you think there's too much wires going on in the ship wireframe? the targeting MFD ship components are color-coded, and thus not confusing. but on the guns MFD it's all monochrome, and I can't make heads or tails. in WC1, the monochrome guns MFD blueprints are decidedly simplified. maybe clearing obscured lines could help? in Maya it can be done through wireframe plus shading minus lights, as far as I recall, but MAX is even more of a mystery to me than Maya :)

That would be the Blackgaurd, Blaggart....I don't actually remember which one we went with, :) It's a raider and escort for the Kilrathi Raider Corvette we've got in here, the principle Kilrathi antagonist I believe in the absence of primary fleet assets.

Okay, even though the Kilrathi won't be in the flight demo I felt the need to revise the textures on them as well. I had taken a look at the most recent versions of the kilrathi fighters just yesterday, and they just didn't compare very well to the latest human equipment. So, anyway, here's the modified Dralthi. Also, the Jalthi MFDs. Comments or suggestions are welcome!

That is one snappy Dralthi there, Howard. I would be interested in seeing a compiled list of all the ships that will be in the game with some kind of picture and what side will use them, i'm kind of confused. Also, what exactly is this thing?: http://www.crius.net/zone/attachment.php?attachmentid=2086&d=1163739319

This Dralthi is just beautiful. Can't wait to see the in-game look of Jalthi -- my unquestionable favorite of all ships in Pioneer!

Well, while I don't have pictures, I can supply the list.

Flyable

-Hunchback (starter)
-Phalanx
-Tarsus
-Camel
-Hydra

Non Flyable

Landreich
-Wildcat
-Corsair
-Scimitar
-Granicus
-Valiant
-Falcon

Confed
-Scimitar
-Hornet
-Diligent
-Drayman

Kilrathi
-Dralthi
-Blackgaurd\Blaggart (this is the one you were asking about Fatcat)
-Viking (Corvette)
-Jalthi
-Salthi
-Dorkir
-Ralari

Those are all of the 100% Completed models. I believe there may be one or two others i'm leaving out, they'd be the ones we didn't fully commit to though.

Brad

Pirate
-Bandit

That's the Blaggard. (unoffical name, certainly not the Kilrathi one) it's a small, one-engined raider. I's sort of a visual cross between a Dralthi and a Sartha. I's also the other fighter I had been working on. AS for the list of fighters, and who they're working for...I think Brad has that information.

Maybe you can increase the variability of ships in a way by making various modifications of weapon, engine, armouring, shield and painting configurations of listed ships and giving them some Mk # appendix to their names. Probably an idea you already thought about but it never hurts to suggest it ;).

Thanks for the info, Howard and Brad! Maybe we should have a poll as to that the Blackguard's Kilrathi name will be. Besides that, I'm suprised that the Raptor won't be on the Confed list. Isn't it one of the older fighters? Also, will Confed have the Exeter (like the Paradigm in Privateer)? Finally, the name 'Viking' for the Kilrathi corvette is obviously an unofficial name, could it be the Spikeri from SWC? That's the closest reference, I think.
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really excited about how well this is shaping up.

Indeed you are correct. The 'Viking' is the name given to the ship by the Landreich Folks. Same with the Blaggard. The Viking is an original design, like the Blaggard. They'll pretty much always be seen working together. Whenever you see a Viking, you'll see a Blaggard. We elected to go with those as the primary ships out here as its a minor area in the grand scheme of the war. I'll see about getting a picture of the Viking posted up.

Brad

BTW, it may be pronounced "blaggard", particularly if the speaker has a British accent or isn't talking clearly, but it's spelled "blackguard".

I can't wait to see it. I also noticed that the emblem on the Dralthi is not the one used in the game, but the one on the box art, it's a nice touch.

There's something that I always wondered about the Jalthi--if it has three guns on each side of the cockpit, and three are lasers and three are neutrons, then doesn't that make it assymetric with two lasers and a neutron on one side and two neutrons and a laser on the other? Or am I wrong and it's four lasers and two neutrons?

Uhhh, no. It has 3 Lasers on one side and 3 Neutrons on the other
