Nope. All the fish in one basket. That can get you stuck between a rock and a hard place in the sun.:D

The program sucks. It saves money and space, in limitless space.

Any military geared towards peace will not survive a war.

As a pilot, I see pros and cons.

Pro: You'll have an ass-load of backup on a carrier that size. It can hold up to 250 fighters of varying classes, so one WOULD think that you'll almost always have some help available.

CON: She's a pain to protect, at least in my experience. ( maybe I should spend more time in the simulator )

Me, personally....I like the idea. She just presents an awfully big target.

Except that it's been stated a million times the Midway is still supposed to rely on cruisers, destroyers, and other support ships. It just has the more menial abailities, like science and a complement of Marines.

in other words, there are more on board when it gets torped

And those people can sometimes keep it from being torped - look at how they added the plasma cannon, modified our weapons, and also figured out how to stop the invasion without consulting headquarters.

Besides... it's one BIG target, but it's apparently a tougher target than a bunch of smaller ships who'd be defenseless anyways should one of the carriers go up.

And I suppose dropping the fleet carrier concept in favor of escort carriers is a good idea? :p

Absolutely. But of course, if you take the "The bigger the ship, the more you lose if it's sunk, and therefore big ships are a bad idea" logic to its ultimately conclusion, then space suits are the way to go.

What seems to be overlooked here is the fact that the Midway survived, alone, with limited supplies and an incomplete fighter compliment, behind enemy lines. In that aspect, the ship has performed extremely well in a situation that it hadn't even been designed to handle. So, it seems to me that all this talk about it being a big, easy kill, is just bullshit. The Midway design is a great idea, because it has been proven to work.

Complement. :p

But yeah, it's seemed to work so far. The shields are supposed to be as strong as a permanent installation (not that capship shields mean much to a fighter in the WCP-era), but Rachel did note that it's not heavily armoured for its size.

Yeah, Its worked so far.

On the other hand, give me a Manta and two wingmen, plus 6 Devil rays as Escort and I'll sink her

Or, give me a Dev and two wingmen, plus 6 Vamps as Escort and I'll sink a Bug Dreadnaught.

The survival of the Miday is down to the Player, In one of the defence missions, try not shooting anything, she goes down pretty quick.

But that applies to any mission involving the Bugs - remember, they pack a LOT of good weaponry on their craft. But the Midway is still less vulnerable as one target than four carriers, two science ships, and a bunch of Marine transports. There, the pilots have to spread their attention across eight, nine different ships and can get split up. The Midway, while a huge target, means that you've got a lot less to worry about as a pilot, plus she has some really good shields still.

Anyways, given that fighters can now jump by themselves thanks to the jump buoys in Confed systems... even if the ship goes down, the fighters still have a chance to make it out alive, should they have enough fuel and life support, at least to the next system where there should be some support.

Especially if you did the sensible thing and put the fucker in the middle of a battle group.

they wouldn't matter if the enemy came at her with plasma cannons and torps. remember, the midway's like the rapier: good shields, but thin armor.

Well, they had to cut the mass down SOMEWHERE - remember how the Vesuvius weighed like 30,000 tons more...

Besides, they had enough room left over on that frame to shove a plasma cannon on it, so it didn't turn out too badly, even if the armor's relatively low for the size. Can't do much about those plasma cannons anyways...

50k actually. but why should they need to make the tonnage lower? afterall, they have those jump engines that can use damn near any jump point, regardless of mass. cost shouldn't matter, cause the vesuvius had that special armor. if the midway was using standard armor, would't the cost armor be less?

and i ment the devastator type plasma cannon, not the big bug one
