Lord of the Rings Trilogy Slip Case $3

IMHO the scene where the army of death attacks the corsairs should not have been added to the SE. It takes from the surprise at the end of the movie. Besides that I think the new scenes had been less noticeable (except Faramir) then those in the first two movies.

You have to think about the purpose of the special editions. They're not "director's cuts" any more than the theatrical versions. The theatrical version is the real package. The special edition is a 33% longer version full of bonus clips for people who already saw the movie and want it fleshed out even more. Out of the three hours that the special editions add to the trilogy, only a matter of minutes really adds significantly. The elf queen's gifts in fellowship, increased characterization of Faramir/Boromir/the steward in two towers and the Saruman conclusion in return of the king were pretty good.

Plus the Specials add parts for people who have read the books. If you read the Book of ROTK, you know that Aragorn uses the Army of the Dead to capture the Corsair ships (and then releases them, you see the Corsairs had captured some people of Gondor and were using them as slaves onboard, and they then maned the ships, plus Aragorn had some of the Northern Rangers with him aswell)
