Lord of the Rings Trilogy Slip Case $3

Hey, for everyone picking up the LOTR ROTK SEE today, New Line apparently has a deal to get the trilogy box set case for $3. This is just the cardboard holder for the three cases. If you bought the extended editions separately over the last few years, this is pretty nice. It's otherwise available in the $80 trilogy extended box set going on sale today as well, but everyone should grab one for $3. It's one per household and only available in the US.. so maybe some people might want to grab one for fellow WC fans outside the country.

Yeah, it's not like all the other ecommerce sites that allow purchases to be made using good feelings and rainbow pony hearts.

I have 2 extended editions. I should get the ROTK, but this offer is only valid on the US, and I don't have it yet.

I was watching the preview for the extended version the other day. And I totally forgot about that scene with that Mouth of Sauron guy. So I went back and read it and it was pretty interesting. I'm glad they have that scene in there.

I was also relieved they put that scene in where Aragorn looks into the Palantir thing and taunts Sauron with his sword. Cause if I remember correctly (it's been awhile since I read it), that was the reason taht Sauron decided to attack Gondor wasn't it? Cause he got all panicky and decided to strike. And I think Aragorn did it just to divert Sauron's attention on him to increase Frodo's chances of destroying the ring. Was I way off about that?

Anyway, I haven't seen any of the extended versions yet. I think when this last one comes out I'll just veg out for a whole day and watch all of them. Or try to.

Overall the extended ones have been pretty great. The elf queen scene in the Fellowship EE is pretty important. She gives everyone a gift that they end up using in Two Towers. If you hadn't seen the extended version, they'd just have these random daggers and string and collar straps without any meaning behind them.

So are there any extensions to the end scenes in ROTK? They were really bad in the standard version IMHO.

Theres two scenes of note.

The first one involves the final confrontation with Sauruman and the second is the Mouth Of Sauron whom they meet at the Black Gates towards the end of the film.

Theres also a brief confrontation between Gandalf and The Witch King but its only 30 seconds or so.

So the scene that really everyone was criticising for not being in is truely still not in. :-(

They were really bad in the standard version not because they needed to be longer, but because five of those end scenes should have been deleted. It was a movie, not a book. Personally, in spite of having read the book and knowing what to expect, I found all those endings irritating, since they just dragged on and on.

Which one is that? The Witch King and Saruman fights were the ones I saw people talking about.. and they're the two biggest additions.

I was disappointed a bit that the movie didn't include the scouring of the Shire. But I honestly never expected it to be in the movie. Even the extended version. That whole part was like a short story in itself.

They said years ago that the scouring bit was not filmed and would not be included. I don't get why people still act surprised.

I've met a lot of hardcore LOTR fans who get all ticked because all these parts weren't in there. Honestly though, that Tom Bombaldi scene was so boring.

Re: Tom Bombadil - while i quite liked him in the books I understand that he would not really be suited for the broad masses in a movie format. He is a somewhat strange char.

Re: scouring of the Shire. IMO it is a lie that it wasn't filmed. Because you see 5 seconds of it in the movie... And if it isn't the scouring of the Shire what is it then?! Besides it was claimed that some stuff was filmed later just for the SE. So personally I wouldn't have been extremely surprised if they had us surprised with the scene suddenly being there.

I not only miss the scene because it is kinda an important one for the whole morale of the book, but also because it would have improved that over and over ending by introducing some story in between and make it less repetetive. It might be that the Mouth Of Sauron fills into that gap a bit - will have to see it once it gets a bit cheaper.

The future or a possible future, right. But a picture of a future has a place to play in. An that place awefully looks like the Shire to me. Which in turn negates the statement that scouring of the Shire wasn't filmed. It just wasn't used as 'chapter'.

I still think however that the most important scene they left out was the one where Aragorn picks up the Palantir and taunts Sauron. That explained why Sauron attacked Gondor when he did.

You all forgot about Saruman's scene, and Aragorn using the Army of the Dead to capture the Corsair Ships
