This is the kind of nuanced approach I need to practice.

Yeah. Of course working for a nearly bankrupt company that does construction in an area where people are moving out instead of moving in really improves the chances of being laid off.
 
Getting laid off rocks. Until cabin fever sets in . . .

I really wish I could smell a crappy company BEFORE I go to work for it. I, too, am on the dole. :(
 
We're facing acquisition, so it's anybody's guess what they'll do with my team and our division. Interesting though - since I've been with the company, we've been small and independent, then acquired by a big publicly traded firm, only to now be in the process of going private again - all in the space of 2.5 years.
