I am currently doing a paper on japanese imperialism before and during the second world war....now does everybody understand why they didn't win?

Yes ... because I read The Pacific War by Saburo Ienaga!

And why? Because it had the coolest cover ever!

However, we should remember that this thread is about the humourous recruitment ad of the current Japanese Marine Self Defence Force rather than how we (the U.S. of A.) mopped the floor with the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II.

That ad kinda shows you the cultural differences between the US and Japan. While we use quasi-rock music and action-packed combat scenes in our Navy recruitment ads, the Japanese use toe-tapping broadway style choreograpy in theirs :D.

I would not say that the US navy "mopped the floor" with the IJN. A lot of the US mopping was the result of MAGIC, the code breakers in Hawaii who broke imperial japanese code, without it, Coral Sea, Midway and some of the other 1942 battles could have gone quite differently....it was not until 1944 that the US had a true supremacy over the IJN in pilot and material quality.

So... your statement is that they the US Navy did mop the floor with the Japanese... but if they hadn't... they might not have...?

FOR PEACE!

The British got their asses thoroughly kicked in the Pacific. The only place they really held their ground was in Burma. The Royal Navy when they lost the Prince of Wales in the Indian Ocean was basically out of the fight for the pacific.

My statement was that in terms of just men and material it was fairly evenly matched, it was only with the aid of MAGIC that the US was able to so thoroughly decimate IJN naval strength...

I just had it worded kinda funny...

Actually, regarding war material, the U.S. had the ability to vastly out produce the Japs. Breaking their code was a tremendous asset and saved a lot of lives, but they would have eventually been decimated nonetheless.

yeah but Americans seem to have a problem when a war goes badly for them, when the lose a lot of troops moral at home sinks quite low and japan hoped to push it so low that the US sued for peace after the first year or two of war...they knew they couldn't win a prolonged conflict with the US...
