was one of Robert's parents British then? they must have been if he grew up in the UK, in which case he probably IS British... And American.
What I mean is he could have a dual nationallity.
A friend of mine here in the UK has an American mother who is able to live here because she is married to an englishman, she has however retained her American citizenship and my friend is considered to have a 'dual nationallity'. He has both an American and a British passport and is able to live in either country...
