Epee or Ferret

Epee's never show up in the novels at all, aside from End Run using their designation (F-54) instead of the right one (F-44) for the Rapier IIs.
 
It's interestnig how the Epee is still famous. Maybe that's an example on how there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Because a one-torpedo strike ship on an escort carrier's like having a slow recon fighter or a space superiority fighter with just one gun - a senseless waste of space, and almost every novel save Freedom Flight or False Colors had an escort carrier as the setting for the novel, set in the WC1-2 era.

The Epee was fast, had good shields, but almost no armor - and when you're doing a torpedo run, you've got to fly straight and true for thirty whole seconds... which in an Epee meant you'd be dead unless you ran the torpedo in yourself. Even then, there'd be no guarantee the fighter would make it in that far. :D

That's why Sabres and Broadswords were used for torpedo strikes, most of the time - they could carry more of them, AND they were armored and shielded well enough to survive a few hits, while the turrets on them kept their backs somewhat covered.
 
More likel because the 'one torpedo' Epee doesn't exist outside a single throw-away line buried in WC2. The only people who know that it might exist are us.
 
Hummm... lemme see if I understand... So the Epee is better than the Sabre because Knight likes to have more armor on his imaginary Broadsword... No, I don't get it.

It is plain stupid to say that a pilot is bad because he likes bigger fighters better. Knight sucks because he sucks, not because he likes the raptor over the rapier.

I also prefer the Raptor, for it's superior gun and missile loadout.

Not to mention that the Sabre is one of the most popular "vannila" fighters in WC. It has great weapons, good speed, good shields and so on. The epee is bad, and even people who like the Ferret usually hate the epee.
