The Privateer 2 version sold here in Portugal does not have subtitles either. It is actually a regular English version of the game, the only difference being the game manual, which was translated to Portuguese.

It sure sounds like he's talking about some kind of rat... and 'packrat' makes sense... but it just doesn't sound like that's the word he says. At best it's "caprat hole".
