Hey guys!

In Standoff the Player has the choice concerning Sparrow...I´d like to know what Brandshaw did in the novell, making it canon

Yeah, Fleet Action only gives us the "war" side of the story... not the "character" side.

The novel is about the truce with the Kilrathi, the discovery that it was a plot to deploy the Hakaga fleet, the Kilrathi fleet's march towards Earth while Confed's military is greatly weakened, and all these things which we try very hard to be very true to in Standoff... but Fleet Action follows all this from the perspective of different characters (Tolwyn, Lone Wolf, Doomsday, Bear, and etc).

We chose to create all new characters because making a totally impersonal story about this conflict wouldn't be immersive enough for a Wing Commander game (it would play like those WW2 flight sims where you are an unnamed pilot taking place in a famous battle, which makes the famous battle feel very generic)... and focusing the game on the novel's characters would limit our storytelling too much.

Standoff's initial storyline actually consisted of nothing more than me and Quarto deciding we should make a Film Noir in space, borrowing a bit from Strike Commander's plot... the idea of setting it during Fleet Action came later.

Everything from our Episode 1 (ships, events, characters), as well as the Firekka, all of her crew, and most minor ships that show up in later episodes (the TCS Francis Drake, TCS Breslau, etc) are our creations. One exception is Reismann, the Firekka's task force captain, which is a character from Privateer... however there is no canon information on what he was doing at the time of FA, and Privateer happens after FA/Standoff, so everything related to him in Standoff was made up by us as well.
