A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

RE: Nature of Nephilim

Too many questions, so few answers.
I say shoot to kill first and ask questions later.
I believe that if they mean to harvest us, then they intend to eat us as a food resource.
"I shall tear flesh from your bones and feed it to the mother beast".
Where's my can o' Raid. Come here bug and prepare to be nerve gassed.
"Resistance is futile" my butt. You Nephilim prepare to be exterminated.

What gives them the right to judge us?

As for the stuff going on in the other systems, well its all speculation and no substance.

How do you come to that now?
But in fact they really didn't have a right. I imagine them as war-people just like the Kilrathi. And like today on earth (no discussion on that comparision PLEASE :)) they began a war, because they thought they're stronger. They just wanted to test it out.

It's all speculation. Many things we discuss her are speculation.
Whom knows what they wanted in Confed Space or why they came? We only know what they did...:)

I wonder what the bugs were up to out there!!?

Building a wormhole. The science vessels were meant to constuct the Proxima Stellar Accretion Device. In this case, the good doctor's assumptions were correct...the aliens were building the Proxima SAD to take advantage of Proxima Centauri's binary star system.

And as for what they wanted, well, they wanted to invade, that we know...but why they wanted to invade, well, that we don't know. They probably didn't want to eat us, there isn't enough of us to make a staple food source. Slaves? Well, maybe. Military conquest, now that's an idea that deserves consideration. But, that might not be the only reason...

Sorry for another Dune quote -- but maybe the Nephilem
are testing us to see if we're human :).

That is, perhaps for them sentience, by itself, is not
enough for a race to merit treatment as an equal. Perhaps
in addition a race must prove itself militarily capable.
If it cannot defend itself, it is nothing more than a
pack of bright animals, to be exploited and used like
humans use cows, dogs, and other domestic creatures.

If it IS capable of defense, it may be admissible into the
Aligned Peoples, possibly as a caste species rather than
full equals.

Anybody here ever play Starflight II? In that game, there
was a nation called the G'nunk, who divided outside species
into G'noon (weak) and G'nasch (bad-asses). The G'noon
they preyed on, and the G'nash they either avoided,
traded with, or sometimes offered them the opportunity
to join the G'nunk. The key point was they would neither
talk, nor trade, nor hold any intercourse save with their
weapons with anyone they encountered until the new group
had proven itself G'nasch. It was up to the new groups
to prove that they were G'nasch by massacring G'nunk in
carload lots whenever the G'nunk fought them.

Just a thought.

Testing us if we're human...maybe whether we're Nephilim? :)Till that day they came into Kilrathi space they also didn't know what 'human' is. We were new for them.
Maybe the tests were first to show how much we've in common with them. Just like we'd do if we found an alien.

*g* But just the problem with what...intergalactic war means first having the right ships to do....if I think of the NASA needing till 2060 to test that new MACH-7 plane first time with passengers...then we're very far away from exploding space. So they'd have an easy game: Blowing up ISS and bombing earth that was it.:)
Intergalactic war: Taking less than 5 minutes.

No, that'd be an interplanetary war.

Planetary wars are confined to on planet. Interplanetar wars are confined to one system. Interstellar wars are confined to a bunch of systems. Intergalactic is confined to one galaxy. And intercluster is confined to one supercluster. Yes, the last one sounds dumb.

Hmm...interesting ideas. But they want to wipe us out, not give us membership in the aligned peoples...we did stop their incursion, but they managed to destroy quite a few of our ships (including a supercarrier, quite a blow to our military...)

Hey, when in doubt, look to Ender's Game, not Dune...we either kill them, or they kill us. They don't seem to want us to join the Aligned Peoples (if we can...I, personally, don't think there is more than one or two races), and they don't want to play nice, so we should wipe them out when we get the chance.

Ok. Learned something more. But still didn't play SO: Which Megacarrier was lost???? The Midway, like in the capitle we could read here few weeks ago?
Just one thing: I have my doubts if I look at the Aliens that anybody would like to become member of such an alliance. Except he is also so 'kind' and looks so 'nice'.
There I'd always prefer killing them....

The St. Helens (Sister ship to the TCS Vesuvius in WC4)
was trashed in SO episode 5 -- it was jumped by a Leviathan
and it's escorts. If I understood what I saw, the
Leviathan threw a Capship missile at it and blew it to
smithereens.

Also: If we *did* ally with the Aligned Peoples it wouldn't
be out of love or friendship, but out of survival. My
impression is that the AP doesn't care for "other"
races running around the galaxy -- they must either
be controlled (as part of the AP hierarchy) or destroyed.

Let's face it -- the AP massively outnumbers the Confederation. Confed has kept them at bay so far by
sealing the wormholes, but if ever the AP successfully
opens a wormhole and keeps it open, Confed will be
completely overwhelmed. If we can't defend our own
space, an offensive into their space is suicidal. Thus,
there are a limited set of options:

1. The AP has an "Achilles heel" which, when struck,
will bring the whole structure toppling down. This
seems most in line with the WC ethos, which
eemphasizes individual heroism and desperate one-man
missions. The only problem is, its been done before.
2. Lead a rebellion a la Star Control 2. If the Aligned
Peoples is an Empire with many subject races, it may
be possible to induce them to overthrow the Overlords.
We could then set ourselves in their place.
3. Accommodation with the Aligned Peoples. Without
an achilles heel, the AP cannot be defeated militarily.
We will then be forced to accomodate (read: surrender)
to them to some extent. Possibly the Janissary
approach: Every year the Nephilem take a small
number of humans to be their soldiers, and otherwise
leave us alone. We pay taxes in the form of human
lives and material goods, and in exchange receive
AP "protection". Kind of like buying off the Mob --
an ugly business, but beats the alternative of
having your business burn down in the dead of night.
4. Alliance with another spacefaring race against the
AP. However, this implies that A) There *are*
opposing races B) that have sufficient power to
keep the Nephilem at bay C) are willing to ally
with humans and D) are "better than" the AP. If
they're WORSE, than we may have to continue with
#3.

Fishbone: I believe that NASA is testing the mach 7 plane now. They'll definitely have worked it out by 2060.

pendell: Superior numbers do not hand one victory. I seriously doubt that the bugs enjoy any truly substantive advantage over us.

1: The Achilles Heel. True, it has been done before but look at it like this:
WC1: Blair blows up Kilrathi Imperial HQ.
SM1: Blair blows up Sivar dreadnought.
WC2: Blair destroys K'Tithrak Mang.
SO1: Blair saves Ghorah Khar.
WC3: Blair destroys Kilrah & Thrak.
WC4: Blair prevents war between Confed and UBW.
WCP: Casey destroys wormhole.
Any complaints anyone? :)

2: Rebellion. If the bugs have the advantages that you speak of, inducing a rebellion would be extremely difficult. Not to mention that we still can't access the wormhole and wouldn't know where to start if we ever got into their space.

3: Why should the bugs seek an accomodation with us if they have the advantages that you speak of? Insofar as I know they haven't asked for our surrender.

4: The only other race that we know of that has the necessary resources is the Kilrathi. I'd say they're already on our side.
