Lyford Beverage was a Terran Confederation Space Navy officer. He was commander of the First Cruiser Squadron during the Earth Defense Campaign. Beverage attended Geoffrey Tolwyn's briefing to the Third Fleet on the Hakaga carriers and asked how many fighters they were expected to carry.

In a September 4, 2001 interview with Justin Bielawa, William Forstchen answered the question "Who the heck is Lyford Beverge and why does his name keep showing up in your work?" He replied: "Ahh, Lyford, A very dear friend who I worked with while teaching High School in Maine. many of the characters in my different novels are named after friends, such as Mina, Beverage, Ferguson, Kindred. I also will use the names of favorite students as a little way of saluting their efforts."
