Wcdx - Kilrathi Saga for modern Windows

Always great to see any updates, already it's definitely the best way to play WC1.
I can't wait for WC2 to get to the same level.

Is there anything I might need to do to get my joystick (X52 pro) working? It's the only controller device plugged in but the game doesn't seem to accept any input from it.

Edit: Plugged in a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, that worked.

Late to the party, but I want to express my gratitude too to Stinger.

Thanks for still finding time to work on this and to let us hope we can one day play with a neatly wcdx-ized version of WC II!

Cheers!

Question about installation:

Per instructions:

2. Open a command prompt and run this command: wcpatch Wing1.exe Wing1_wcdx.exe
5. To play the Secret Missions add-on packs, Repeat step 2 for SM1.EXE, SM2.EXE, and TRANSFER.EXE.

This is unclear. What does "repeat step 2" mean, exactly? I've tried "wcpatch sm1.exe Wing1_wcdx.exe", "wcpatch sm1.exe", and "wcpatch sm1.exe sm1_wcdx.exe", and none worked.

I've managed to do this once before a year-and-a-half ago, but can't remember what I did.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. These are the commands you should type:

wcpatch Wing1.exe Wing1_wcdx.exe

This tells wcpatch to read the file Wing1.exe (the unpatched executable shipped by Origin) and write out the patched version as Wing1_wcdx.exe. You could choose any name you like for the patched version; this is just the name I tend to use so that it's obvious what it is when I look at it. Following that pattern, here are equivalent commands for SM1 and SM2:

wcpatch SM1.EXE SM1_wcdx.exe wcpatch SM2.EXE SM2_wcdx.exe

I've reorchestrated the OriginFX theme and the missing Special Operations 1 track similar to how George Oldziey did with the other WC1 and 2 tracks.

Do you think the SO1 track could be implemented for the scene with Thrakath and Khasra arguing?
And is the OriginFX logo scene actually included in the Kilrathi Saga files?

Hi Stinger, trust you're well, any new developments on WC2 ?
Nothing to report at this time, sorry; I've been swamped with other work.

That's pretty compelling! I'd very much like to do this, but it will require a bit of research. I could probably come up with a patcher to add the new music to the stream file, but the music selections are driven by the cutscene scripts, and I haven't started looking at those yet.

Thank you!

During the "undercover" missions where you fly a Dralthi in Secret Missions 2, the disguise doesn't seem to work, and the Kilrathi are all immediately hostile. I was able to deal with the first couple missions of this type by just boosting past the enemies, but the one that has you rescuing a captured transport seems like it would be outright impossible in this state.

This is my first time playing the game so I can't be completely sure I'm not missing something, but the guide on GameFAQs says the enemies in this mission should leave you alone. I believe this issue is being caused by either DX or (more likely) the Kilrathi Saga version of the game.

Any possibility of a quick fix or advice on what I'm doing wrong?

It's not a wcdx thing, the disguise just doesn't work. You don't have to fight the Gratha and Ralari. Just run away from them and save yourself for escorting the Dralthi, which is much more manageable.

So it's just intentional that at no point in any of the "disguise" missions does it actually work? Not the first time you try it, and not even when they say they've "cracked the code"? That's wild if so.

There are a few story scenes in WC2 Special Operations 1 that have no music, at least 2 in the Rigel series that I've seen so far.

Edit: I got a crash when attempting to land after completing Ghorak Khar A 2.

I believe this is a known issue; see @FekLeyrTarg's post above.

Thanks for the report! That will be difficult to address unless I can see it happen. Can you consistently reproduce the crash?

In Wing Commander 1, the mechanic's comment on the state of your ship will often go by in a split second for some reason.

Edit: I think I figured out what causes it. If you have a key held down when you land (like, say, the decelerate key) it'll buffer the input all the way to the next dialogue scene, which happens to be the mechanic.

Hello, Stinger.

It's been some time since we got any news or updates about WCDX and we can all assume that you have not had any time to progress at all. I am just posting to tell you that myself (and I believe many more) are loyally keeping an eye on this because we love WCDX!

All the best for your work and modding committments.
