New game concept(reposted from another thread)

Zor Prime is correct. My might is beyond resistance. Any Resistance is futile. <g>

Zor Prime: That's nice, I'll keep you in my favour. <g>

My spirity essense shall rise from the grave and haunt Mekt forever more until he apologizes!!! :D

AHH I just posted a big huge idea and then hit the back button... :(
Lemme try this again... from the top...
First of all, who to get to make it: ANYONE. The Roberts brothers are probably eager to try, and an opportunity to do something NEVER ATTEMPTED BEFORE would make them freak!
Second, the mercinary idea: bad idea. Confed doesn't hire mercs. However, I'm sure they would be able to requisition assistance from other carriers in the area...
Third, my big huge idea:
The ability to assign wings to missions that YOU want them to fly, WHERE you want them to fly, is great. BUT HOW ABOUT THIS? Have the ability to access your nav map and switch to thier nav layout with the click of the mouse! If they scream for help escorting a transport, if a bomber wing loses it's escort, if your carrier comes under attack and the fighters there aren't enough... you can be there with your OWN wing as backup. :) YOU get to pick whether your mission is more vital than thiers.(there's always the chance of death, but an SAR would be around to pick up ejection pods) It'd be difficult to grow attached to the pilots, that's for sure... with so many pilots the size of the game would be HUGE. Instead, your relationship in the FMV's would be more command-oriented. You speak with the captain regarding certain threats in single-player. You decide whether you'll risk pilots on an experemental spacecraft/weapon/technology. You decide EVERYTHING(well, ALMOST everything). The possibilities are endless! :)

:-)

This idea is great. I'd try creating it as a TC, if I could learn how to program and model (the 3d drawing kind *g*) in an hour or two :p. I'm not sure any current game engine could be twisted enough to allow for something like this, but the upcoming freeware Babylon 5: I've Found Her game may. Would Falcon 4 allow for mod-ability to take away gravity and all that, and set it in space? (Unless you want a planet-based Wing Commander, in which case it'd be easier to make but may take away some of the charm of the game)

To add to this idea... perhaps you could also be a cruiser's Captain, and battle it out with other cap-ships. Being the CAG would probably the most entertaining, but it'd be cool now and then to engage in cap-ship battles, like the few good ones in Starlancer.
Also, you could add different game modes apart from standard single player campaigns and two-player multiplayer. There could be persistent dedicated server games (with players as the Captains of cap-ships and other CAG's, allowing for entire fleets to battle it out), and there could be random campaign where you set several game parameters then play. Like enemy force strength, friendly force strength nearby, size of the sector, and time frame. The time frame would change what type of fighters, bombers and cap-ships are available. Later times would have WC:P ships available, earlier would have ships from WC1-4. Imagine being the CAG of a carrier like the Midway! :-)
You should also be able to form your own squadrons from scratch (new outfits) or pick pre-made ones (experienced, veteran or Ace squadrons), and be able to re-name them and add/remove certain pilots, etc.

That would be then a long time...
But you're not the first one, I am sure, mapnty is there somewhere too. :D ;)

Blair was a Squadron commander, as far as I can tell... there wasn't a CAG on board the Victory, he took his orders straight from Eisen.
Also... the Capship captain's not too bad of an idea, but too limited...
And lastly... I'm not talking TC. I'm talking of a whole new game! :) No game has ever attempted this so a totally new coding would have to be done, so it'd be nearly impossible to convert something to a totally new genre. :)

OOH I just had yet ANOTHER IDEA!
MINI GAMES! For instance, if you really screw up you're grounded... so you have to plan out the missions for everyone else, and stay behind... then the ship comes under attack! You quickly run from the bridge to the gunnery controls, and take charge of one of the turrets on the carrier :) Now THAT would be cool! Imagine, an entire battle swarming about, friendlies and enemies... while you're stuck on the capship manning a turret. :)
Just an idea, but it'd make the game a bit more interesting... and one hell of a shock to someone who didn't read any game guides or anything before flying it... LOL
Mini-games that are fun are definitly a bonus in a good game! Just look at Final Fantasy 7! Without all those mini games it would have been somewhat... less fun.

So in that case the carrier would have several mediocre gunners & one decent one:eek: Don't get too close
be a bit restrictive though, stuck in a turret. I can see it now
<you> c'mon, we're getting pasted, I belong in the cockpit
<Captain> No, you're grounded and thats all there is to it
etc. etc. It could be like that choice you make when appealing to get Vagabond reinstated on the flight list with Captain Eisen in WCIII (although I am not sure how it would work)

Blair was a full Colonel, which made him a Commander, Flight Group. No Colonel will be commanding a mere squadron. The terminology changed, as Wing Commander became CAG, and also consider that Prophecy is supposed to be during what is considered peacetime, so procedures are a bit different. During the war, nobody stayed on the sidelines for very long. We couldn't afford it.
