STILETTO: Casey. Congratulations. The Captain has recommended you for the Silver Star.

CASEY: To hell with that! What about the prisoner the Marines bought in?

STILETTO: It's Blair. But Casey, you should know...

-

CASEY: Commodore? Commodore, I'm sorry.

BLAIR: For what? You saved my ass.

CASEY: Yeah, but if... You wouldn't of been captured if I didn't...

BLAIR: I don't want you blaming yourself for what happened to me. You did the right thing, you stayed with Dekker and the men. Excuse me. My new friends bounced me around a little bit.

CASEY: Well, at least they didn't slice you and dice you.

BLAIR: No. But they cut into my mind, though. Deeply. They dredged up memories: Telamon, Admiral Tolwyn, the destruction of Kilrah, Angel. Everything I ever hoped to forget. And I relived every moment. And then they let you find me. Oh, they are fascinated by us, Casey. Our ability to kill without remorse, without pity. Our darker nature.

CASEY: But, who are they?

BLAIR: Death.

INT. BRIEFING ROOM

Casey enters to find it dark and quiet here. He comes in
searching. The Captain's chair turned away from him.

CASEY
Commodore?

The chair swings around, dramatically revealing a pale, exhausted Christopher Blair. He's clearly in pretty bad shape, barely holding it together, but his inner strength and calm are still obvious.

BLAIR
If you tell me I look good, I'll
kick your teeth in.
CASEY
Commodore...I'm sorry.
BLATR
For what? You just saved my ass.
CASEY
But they wouldn'thave caztured you
in the first place --
BLAIR
(a necative gesture)
I don't want you blaming yourself
for what happened to me. You did
the right thing—you stayed with
Dekker and his men.

Blair tries to rise from the chair and almost loses his balance. Casey lends him a hand.

BLAIR
You'll have to excuse me. My new
friends bounced me around a bit.
CASEY

INT. MIDWAY FLIGHT DECK AT DECONTAM CHUTE

Stiletto greets Casey at the chute.

STILETTO
Thought you should know, Casey... the
Captain has recommended you for the
Silver Starburst.
CASEY
The hell with that. What about the
prisoner the Marines pulled in?
STILETTO
(a beat)
It's Blair. But you should know...

Casey is already on his way. Stiletto follows him out.

INT. MIDWAY REC ROOM

Casey ENTERS with Stiletto. All our surviving regular pilots are here;
Spyder, Maestro, Zero, etc. They're solemn and quiet.

CASEY
Where's Blair?
SPYDER
Don't ask us. We checked sickbay; his
quarters, the Officer's Club...
ZERO
No Blair nowhere.
MAESTRO
And the CAG won't tell us where they're
hiding him.
MANIAC
Need to know, the lady says. Typical
brass-ackward, by-the-book, Confed
crap...

He slams a glass against the bar so hard it breaks.

THEN the CAG ENTERS. She nods at Casey.

CAG
He wants to talk to you. In the
Briefing Room.

Every eye in the room is glued to Casey as he EXITS out the Ready Room
door.

INT. MIDWAY BRIEFING ROOM

Casey ENTERS to find the Captain's chair turned away from him.

CASEY
Colonel...

The chair swings around, dramatically revealing a pale, exhausted
Christopher Blair. He is clearly in pretty bad shape; barely holding it
together, but his inner strength and calm are still obvious.

BLAIR
If you tell me I look good, I'll kick
your tail.
CASEY
Colonel... I'm sorry...
BLAIR
For what? You just saved my ass.
CASEY
But they wouldn't have captured you in
the first place --
BLAIR
(a negative gesture)
I don't want you blaming yourself for
what happened to me. You did the right
thing; you stayed with Dekker and his
men.

He tries to rise from the chair; almost loses his balance. Casey has to
lend him a hand.

BLAIR
You'll have to excuse me. My new alien
friends bounced me around a bit.
CASEY
At least they didn't slice and dice
you.
BLAIR
No. But, they cut into my mind, though.
Dredged up all the memories...
everything I'd ever hoped to forget.
Telamon, Admiral Tolwyn, the day I
heard Angel had died, the day I saw
your father... (beat) Every moment just
as fresh... as if it were yesterday.

He slumps back into the Captain's chair.

BLAIR
(CONT)
These guys... they're so much worse
than the Kilrathi...Much worse...
CASEY
Don't worry, sir. We won't let them get
anywhere near Terra. We're all in this
for the duration.

Blair manages a weak grin:

BLAIR
Don't try sucking up to the boss, kid.
CASEY
Who, me?

And OFF Casey's winning smile; GO TO:
