CAG: Lieutenant Casey, this is a critical mission for us. After going over the roster, I have decided your wingman will be...

BLAIR: Me! I'll be Casey's wingman.

CAG: I'm not sure this is such a good idea.

BLAIR: You need a seasoned pilot out there. Now, these kids are good, but I'm the best you've got.

CAG: Mr. Casey, you will recap the mission specs with your new wingman. The rest of you are dismissed. Good luck... to you all.

CASEY: Congratulations, Sir.

BLAIR: Don't congratulate me yet, Lieutenant. It's been years since I flew my last mission.

CASEY: Are you kidding, you'll be fine. Besides, it's not every day that a guy gets to fly with a legend.

BLAIR: You know Casey the problem with being a legend is they always expect you to win.

CASEY: Oh, you don't have to win this time, Sir, you just have to try to keep up!

INT. BRIEFING ROOM -- SPECIAL DISMISSAL

The pilots look up from the ICIS.

CAG
Lieutenant Casey, this is a
critical mission for us. After
going over the roster, I have
decided your wingman will be- -
BLAIR (OS)
Me.

Every head turns to see Blair in his flight suit, standing in
the doorway. He continues as he ctes forward.

BLAIR (CONT.)
I'll be Casey's wingman.

This is a major bombshell. As the entire room reacts, Blair
walks cast the podium. The CAG culls him aside.

CAG
(whispering)
I'm not sure this is such a good
idea.
BLAIR
(whispering)
You need a seasoned pilot out
there. These kids may be
good...but I'm the best you've got.

She can't argue with him. She exhales, nods in resignation and
moves to the podium.

CAG
Mr. Casey, you will recap the
mission specs with your new
winaman. The rest of you are
dismissed. Good luck- -

She shoots a Glance at Blair--and almost smiles.

CAG
--to you all...

She exits.

INT. BRIEFING ROOM (BRIEFING ENDER)

Blair watches the CAG go. Casey him and they begin to walk to
the docr. It remains open as the last of the other PILOTS file
out, leaving them alone.

CASEY
Congratulations, Sir.
BLAIR
Don't congratulate me yet,
Lieutenant. It's been years since
I flew my last mission.
CASEY
Are you kidding, you'll be fine.
Besides, it's not often that a guy
gets to fly with a legend.
BLAIR
The problem with being a legend,
Casey, is that you're always
expected to win.
CASEY
You don't have to win this time,
Commodore.

Blair just looks at him, puzzled.. "No?"

CASEY
You just have to try to keep up.

He exits. Blair feels the slap of that one, smiles and nods.
The heat is on.

INT. MIDWAY BRIEFING ROOM MISSION (D1)

CAG (OS)
Settle down, people. We have a lot of
ground to cover, check your ICISs.

The pilots look up from the ICISs.

CAG
(CONT)
This should make it easier for
Lieutenant Casey's Alpha Flight to
escort Colonel Dekker's LC to the
Station.

CAG (Cont'd)
Casey, your wingman will be --
BLAIR
(OS)
Me.

She breaks off to stare at Blair, who has just entered.

BLAIR
(CONT)
I'll be Casey's wingman.

This is a major bombshell. As the entire room reacts, the CAG and Dekker
exchange shocked looks.

DEKKER
But the Captain...
BLAIR
Knows all about it. As he so elegantly
put it; he's sick and tired of seeing
my gloomy face in Flight Ops.
(beat)
I'm back on the line.

He takes a seat beside an astonished Casey.

BLAIR
Loadout specs please. We don't have all
day.

The CAG sighs. What choice does she have?

CAG
Check your ICIS.

INT. MIDWAY BRIEFING ROOM

As Casey starts to leave the Briefing Room, Blair hangs back. Casey gives
him a look.

CASEY
Sir?
BLAIR
It's been years since I flew my last
mission. It's not like riding a
bicycle, you know...
(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED:

CASEY
I think this is where I say you're
gonna do just fine.
BLAIR
Don't try sucking up to the boss, kid.
CASEY
Who, me?

Casey turns to go; Blair stops him.

BLAIR
All kidding aside, watch your six this
trip. Word is a new kind of alien ship
is making things kinda interesting out
there.
CASEY
With you on my wing, I'll be just fine.
BLAIR
Let's hope those don't turn out to be
famous last words.

They grin at each other, then EXIT.
