RealSpace was the name used for Origin's first 3D engine. It debuted in 1993's Strike Commander, and would be used in Wing Commander: Armada, Wing Commander III, and Wing Commander IV, in increasingly sophisticated forms, as well as the spin-off titles Pacific Strike and Wings of Glory.

Wing Commander: Privateer had originally been planned to take advantage of the RealSpace engine; however, time constraints as well as Strike's infamous delays led to the game adopting the older 2D engine of Origin FX; it would be the last game to use the raster-based engine.
