Blade has been flying with the Border Worlds for a relatively short time. Before he became a combat pilot, he was a skimmer pilot for reconnaissance groups. He gets the job done, but is more used to seeing combat only at a distance. He's not used to worrying about about comrades, on hearing them die. The idea of potential “friendly fire” situations somewhat unnerves him, and sometimes he gets confused in combat.
