Jace Dillon was a Terran pilot hailing from the Terran Confederation who served during the Terran-Kilrathi War.
History
Jace Dillon enlisted in the Terran Confederation Space Force during the Terran-Kilrathi War, and on his first day at the Academy was bestowed with the callsign "Flash". Dillon swept through the ranks with flying colors and became a pilot for the Terran Confederation, and by 2669 was a high-ranking test pilot with the rank of Major.
Unfortunately, Dillon was a typical Academy "hotshot": Fresh out of class, cocky, arrogant, and sporting a flashy flying style that preceded his reputation. As a result of having been entrusted with the testing and fielding of the Confederation's newest and most advanced starfighters, Dillon had a bit of an ego and considered himself superior to conventional Terran personnel, much to the disgust of those who were forced to put up with him.
In 2669, Major Dillon was assigned to host the flight tests for the new F-106 Excalibur, the Confederation's most powerful starfighter at the time. These tests were to be hosted on the TCS Victory in the Tamayo System, where he met Colonel Christopher Blair. The command crew of the Victory were not all that pleased to put up with a "hotshot", who shamelessly displayed his flying style during the Excalibur flight trials.
During these trials, the Victory was ambushed by a large Kilrathi strike force, prompting a scramble launch to fend off the attack. Major Dillon was sleeping in the barracks at the time but even after hearing the alarm so no need to intervene on behalf of the crew. Although the Victory put up a successful defense, the crew was outraged to learn of Dillon's inaction, and Blair personally reprimanded him for his behavior. Dillon was unmoved however, showing little concern for the incident, and Colonel Blair accused the young pilot of cowardice.
A short time later, the Kilrathi launced an invasion of Tamayo II, prompting an intervention by the Victory. Blair had been granted permission by Chief Technician Rachel Coriolis to fly the Excalibur prototype, which proved to be a superb dogfighter in the battle. Dillon however was unimpressed, and accused of the Colonel of meddling with Confed affairs. He then challenged the Colonel to a simulator duel to prove who was the best pilot. Blair accepted on the condition that if Dillon lost, he would file for a transfer to the Victory. Dillon agreed, assured of his victory.
However, the Colonel easily beat Dillon in the simulator, humbling the hotshot pilot. Dillon filed for the transfer as promised and was soon reassigned to the Victory as a combat pilot. He later showed regret for his behavior, promising to prove his true abilities to the Colonel out on the battlefield.
