Worst Fighter?

yeah, for a jack of all trades fighter, its suprisingly good. try usin it in the final WCP mission, it holds its own pretty well.

Well my worst ships would be...

WC1 - Hornet, I liked it though, I didn't really dislike any of the ships in the first game, I haven't got to play the SO yet because it isn't working, but I'm sure I'll hate the Dralthi.

WC2 - Epee, you know why, I hated it, doesn't everyone?

WC3 - Longbow, too unmanuverable to me, it was Chuggy McChug. Only one turret for those nasties who were able to get on your tail (Every enemy at the waypoint) and was a general horror to fly, whenever possible I selected something else.

WC4 - Never played.

WCP - Shrike, my lord it was horrible. I dreaded flying those things, like all bombers, unfortunately they were unmanuverable, they packed alot of punch, but no sane pilot is going to go you head to head to let you use those weapons.

I personally loved the Arrow, Hellcat and Thunderbolt from WC3, loved the Excalibur too but the armour was dodgey.

Cheers

Tigersharks are like opposite of Wasps, their guns arent that good but theve got missiles whereas Wasps lack missiles but has a tachyon in place of guns.

Erm... Wasps lack missiles? Might want to review the standard fighter missile loadouts...

Tigershark: 4 HS, 2 FoF, 2 ImRec, 18 rockets
Wasp: 6 ImRec, 2 HS, 4 Swarmers

With the rockets the Tigershark has more missiles, but unlike the low-damage individual rockets from the TS's pod, each Swarmer is effectively a "one shot, one kill" missile against most bug fighters (1050 damage from all 7 sub-missiles).

Funny, I had no problem with bugs charging my Shrike, nor in the Devastator, which although even less maneuverable has the plasma cannon, which like the Wasp's swarmers can put a serious hurt on whatever it hits.

the wasp was only good for defensive purposes.

My favorite in WCP was the panther, both in looks and in handling.

Oh I didn't say the bugs were sane :D, they charged it all the time, its when they get behind me thats the problem.

I loved the Devastator though, one shot kill with the Plasma cannon on most craft, it was funny giving Devil Rays a plasma makeover.

Cheers.

Yeah, if Plasmas can hit their target, their range-limit and the Devastator's pig-slow speed doesn't make things easier. You'll probably be target to longer range missiles and nimbler craft than hitting anything with the Plasma gun.
Then again, who can resist blowing bugs out of space with Torpedoes/Light Torpedoes.

Plasma gun on nightmare

I regularly play WCP/SO on the nightmare difficulty level. Except for maybe the Devil Ray every other alien fighter/bomber will be destroyed with one shot. The problem is in getting a shot to connect fully with the target. If just part of the shot lands then it might take two. But an on target shot from the plasma gun is enough to take out any fighter/bomber other than the Devil Ray.

Still think the Gladius is the worst fighter ever. However, I've only flown it in Standoff so I can't compare it to any other version. But given what else you fly in Standoff itself the Gladius is horrible (other than the Tartarus).

And when you stop playing on the easiest difficulty, you need more then one shot for the bugs....

Same here/Agreed with Bombadier.

I play on Nightmare as well and a Plasma at short range gets them with a hole in one. Longer range not so much damage.

Yes, it appears that the Plasma cannon hits maybe only about half as hard at the edge of its range as it does at point-blank range. Anything up to a Manta will die in one shot at close range.

The Gladius in Armada is a very different craft. It boasts excellent sheilds and armor, a very high top speed, and one of the best gun arrays I've seen. It's a very balanced fighter. It's only weaknesses lie in it's poor agility (compared to light fighters) and a strange missile loadout which includes 8 dumbfires.

My mistake. Tarsus. Sorry about that everyone.

Thanks for the specs on the Armada version of the Gladius. If I can get my copy to run correctly I'll have to take a serious look at it. Missile load out does seem odd though with 8 dumbfires.

Doesn't it say inside one of the Armada gauntlet missions that the Gladius is a gunship? This conjures in my mind something that specialises in convoy killing while being able to hold on its own in a dogfight.
