wing commander saga early review/thoughts

Hmmm... save your missiles if possible. And your afterburner. Keep moving. Kill his wingmen quickly. IIRC

ok after many attempts I can now get to the second fight with stalker but im so damaged I stand no chance plus his primary attack it seems is to ram me lol

I did it I did it I did it. wow that was one of the toughest fights I ever had in gaming. I just wish I could have literally killed him (yes I know he dies in WC3 but damn im sweating.) The mission to me is the hardest mission in the game besides mission 5. What I did was save 4 missiles for the final encounter and waited and dodged until I got him where I wanted him than bam. I missile spammed him like he did me. I really like this mission even though I died a lot. the only cheating aspect of it to me is the fact that stalker gets his weapons and missiles back and the fact he rams you constantly. im done for today lol. I need a strong drink lol.

And now try to imagne that you play through Saga in just one sitting....like I did.
Okay I have reduced the difficulty for that but even then it was just crazy. Especialy as I was ill with a fever. On the other hand, I doubt that I would have done it when I had been sane ^_^
Still I was pretty happy and excausted when the end credits roled.

I could only imagine I thought of some mission design that could have made that mission a lil better

Its true, some things could have be done better/different but in the end its worth it playing through.

true but im just talking about that one mission, even though this game doesnt provide branching paths like the other wing commander games, it could have had branching choices that would affect the debriefing and if you got a medal or ribbon or not. Like for instance after the first encounter with stalker and avatarr is taken aboard the friendly vessle, It should of been a choice to continue to the hermes or stop for repair, bc on one try I had only 5 percent left. in real life confed wouldnt want you to risk your life or a million dollar machine if it could be repaired. A simple player choice could have been put in place there to continue back to the hermes or stay for repair. if you stayed for repairs you woulnt fight stalker again and you would not get the medal. either way it doesnt affect the story at all bc stalker lives until he dies in wc3

im about mission 38 and just flew the first Excalibur mission but I have a question
I just got done with the longbow missions and I hardly ever took damage, even on destroy the starbase mission and I had missile after missile hitting me my hull never went below 78 percent can you just not die on this mission or what. Same with taking out the big warship that tormented you thru so many systems. Im playing the game on normal. I also just finished the first Excalibur mission and only took one percent damage is this normal. even at one pt I put all my energy to weapons and still nothing. did I encounter a bug or what

and on one of the missions after that in fact the last longbow mission where ya escorting the transport full of fighters I did get down to 50 percent hull damage taking out the heavy cap ship.

Sound pretty unusual to me. I can't remember a mission where you couldn't die. Might indeed be a bug.

Indeed we have a few bugs like this. We found some of them since we started our translation project and WCS+ development. After some investigations i found that these "bugs" are all from the MOD side, not ENGINE side. So we need a mission scripter to fix it. Maybe Aginor? ;) At ENGINE side i fixed also a few other bugs players found long ago (after WCS release) and others we found in our german mod project. But i have no scripting experience, i can't fix mission bugs.

ya the game is back to normal but I think I found another bug, in the second Excalibur mission at nav pt 4 right before you head back to the hermes which is under attack. you encounter a second cap ship on the mission. I played this part several times and sometimes the wingmen destroy the cap ship right away at another pt it is never destroyed and keeps releasing fighters

Well, Luke, if you point me at an example of a mission that breaks I could surely take a look. Maybe that also could encourage me to work on my Kilrathi mod's missions again...

There are no really mission breaks, only a few "design flaws". I think we should discuss this in our internal beta test forum, you have access to them. I would really interested to do some little improvements on the mission side for our "WCS Translation Project (german)" and later for the "WCS Plus Pack (english)". So if you are interested to help us on this point, this would be VERY welcome Aginor. :) And if this can encourage you to work further on your own "Kilrathi Mod Project", then you MUST help us. :D

well im on mission 46 and it has become a grind I understand the Excalibur is the best ship and so they have to throw more at you, but the missions have become a grind and have lost some of the fun. last mission i died bc I finally just ran out of fuel and yes I know about glide its just you cant always use that when you are being missile spammed. I understand the designers wanted the final missions to be challenging I just feel they are going about it the wrong way.
